December 2016                                              View this email in your browser

Well Graduation Night for LMCLP 2016 was a cracker!  Sorry LMCLP 2013, but we didn’t finish with a graduate musical number!  If you were in the audience that night you will know what I mean, when new graduates Ric Raftis and James O’Bryen took the stage with two numbers that inspired audience participation.  Well done, I loved it.

Each graduate year makes the Board incredibly proud and 2016 was no exception.  I personally will remember the evening as the very first event I represented and addressed the audience as a Councillor of the City of Greater Bendigo.  So double tremendous honour for me!

So our diaries are now filling with celebration as the festive season enters full swing, school terms come to an end and interviews undertaken for the 2017 LMCLP program year, I take the moment to thank each and every staff member, board director, alumni and supporter for another stellar CLLM year.

Our collective achievement is being noticed and continues to ensure that a record number of applications for 2017 have been received.  Over 50 sensational applications, makes the job of our staff and board conducting each interview extremely hard.  I can’t wait to see the final list of successful applicants.

I take this moment to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Christmas and safe festive season, with your loved ones and a very Happy New Year.  Bring on 2017 it is going to be super awesome!

Our last Enews for 2016 - where has the year gone?  I recently had a post on my facebook feed that said:
January...February...Blink...December
I can certainly relate to this and I am sure many of you can too.

It has been another stellar year for CLLM, with 27 participants graduating from LMCLP and joining our Regional Leadership Network of 420+ graduates.  It was a pleasure and a privilege to attend their graduation evening last month and here about their journey and the collective impact they are making both through their community projects, and the leadership opportunities they have taken on during the year.

For those of you who were not able to attend, take time to browse through our 2016 Year Book, as well as The Ripple Effect, a booklet detail the community projects undertaken by 2016 LMCLP participants.

As we look forward to 2017, I ask that you put a couple of key dates into your diary - Our 2017 LMCLP Launch on Friday 17 February at Newbridge, and our CLLM AGM and Vision of the Region Dinner on Friday 28 April in Bendigo.  We would love to see you there.

In closing, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to CLLM events, activities and initiatives during the year - we couldn't have done it without you. We have some great plans coming together for 2017 and look forward to sharing these with you early in the new year.

In closing, I would live to wish you all a very merry festive season and hope you get to enjoy time with family and friends who are important to you at this very special time of year.  I know I will be...

Seasons Greetngs, Julie
This time of year is a time of mixed emotions for me with the closure, celebrations, congratulations and farewells of one program year followed closely by interviews for the following year, as I start re-imagining the make-up, character, challenges, learning opportunities and programming for next year’s LMCLP cohort.   And, if I’m honest, there’s a bit of relief that holidays are ahead so that we can regather our energies ready for another full and fruitful year ahead.

The LMCLP 2016 graduation at Silks Function Centre on Friday 11th November was a huge success.  Keith Sutherland was an appropriate guest speaker as a man who is very much a living example of community leadership in action.  The Graduation committee and contributing participants did a wonderful job telling the story of their program year for a strong audience of supporters and stakeholders.  A wonderful quality yearbook produced by our yearbook committee was also launched at Graduation and is well worth a read if you get the opportunity.  It is available for download on our website.

We have a huge number of high quality applicants lining up for the opportunity of taking the leadership journey with us next year.  We have double the number of applicants to positions and with diversty considerations are facing some extremely tough decisions about who we will be able to put through into next year’s program.  It has been a super inspiring process interviewing alongside CLLM Board and staff members across the region and meeting even more amazing people doing amazing things in and for their communities, industries and areas of interest and passion.  Our region is in good hands!

My sincere congratulations and thanks to LMCLP 2016 for a wonderful year of self-responsible, self-reflective learning and action in leadership.  It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to walk alongside you.

Welcome to the class of 2016 to our graduate network, our network is now up around 420 graduates across the region. In 2017 we are looking to provide more opportunities for further leadership training and development, networking and supporting the great work you do out in your local communities.

In the meantime have a wonderful Christmas and new year with your families and friends and we look forward to seeing you in 2017.
Simon Sinek, world famous thought leader and author of WHY (many of you may have seen his inspirational TED talk) is coming to Australia and will be in Melbourne for a one-day masterclass on Friday 3 March.

After a tremendous nine months learning about the region, meeting local leaders and developing leadership skills our participants of the Youth Leadership Program had their Graduation in Swan Hill on Saturday 26 November. A total of 42 people attended the ceremony, listened to key note speakers Tayla Hansen and Khayshie Tilak-Ramesh: "Young People for Refugees" and all were impressed with how well the young people coordinated and managed the entire evening.

Some of the parting quotes included: “leadership has many forms, we all have the potential”, “Believe in yourself and the course”, and “Don’t shy away from an opportunity that presents itself – who knows where it will lead”.

Wishing each and every graduate all the best with their future endeavours!

If you’re like many people who find themselves in management or leadership positions, you’ve had minimal training for your role. You may have been very good at some part of the business, but that doesn’t automatically confer leadership brilliance.
