MEILYR JONES

Announces new single, Return to Life

Tour dates in December and March 2017

Inc. headline show at Islington Assembly Hall on 8th March

Debut album, 2013 out now
 via Moshi Moshi

It's been an amazing year for MEILYR JONES. Following rave reviews for his debut solo album 2013, released in March via Moshi Moshi, he’s toured the land rapidly building a devoted fanbase and stealing hearts at festivals and headline shows, culminating in a recent sold-out performance at the Village Underground in London. Now, in celebration of his most excellent year, Meilyr returns with a new band recording of “Return To Life”, the orchestral song that is on the album.

"For stars to shine take love and time"

Meilyr Jones says he wrote the song "about someone who is leading a boring life going to exhibitions, and doing all the things their friends are doing, and is revived by love". Recorded in a day between festivals in September, it was produced by Iwan Morgan and Jimmy Robertson.

The video is filmed by director Ryan Owen Eddleston, who has collaborated on all the videos so far, and is a live performance from the recent headline gig at Swn Festival in Cardiff - watch it below...

Critical acclaim for 2013, out now on Moshi Moshi:

“A grand songwriting tour... Lush and lyrical, Jones makes 2013 a year to remember.” Q - 4 Stars ****

“A big, bold, entertaining debut that defies easy pigeonholing… A joy from start to finish.” The Observer – 4 Stars ****

“This is Meilyr's time.” MOJO - 4 Stars ****

“What a lovely record this is… 2013 fits snugly into the line of cosmic Welsh music alongside the work of Gruff Rhys and Euros Childs.” The Guardian – 4 Stars ****

“A musically sophisticated album with plenty of bold brass stabs and rich string arrangements, and one great melody after another.” The Times – 4 Stars ****

“An extraordinary, magical solo debut... Jones sings about loss, culture, humility, false trails and unearthed riches in a tremulous choirboy voice, over soundscapes lush with strings, brass, woodwind, harp and harpsichord, one minute glam rock, the next almost Elizabethan in their courtliness… Its sensational.” Sunday Times

“Taking cues from Lord Byron and Rome, 2013 is a dramatic affair, from the terrific glam stomp and swing of opening track 'How To Recognise A Work Of Art' to the arch melodrama of the gorgeous 'Passionate Friend'... Meilyr brings together aspects of Super Furry Animals, John Grant, Luke Haines and even a splash of Pulp.” Uncut - 7/10

“Bold and original… Jones possesses that great artistic ability of making the quotidian and mundane profound and theatrical.” Loud & Quiet - 7/10
