Join the War!
By Sophie La Roche

Weeds - They are the cunning yet deadly plants that creep into our backyards to take over our native forests. Weeds are able to smother the forest floors, taking away the nutrients in the soil and stopping new seedlings from growing, enabling them to take over the bush. This calls for a war - the war on weeds. This is a project run by Ecomatters, where they assist west auckland residents in the war on weeds by providing bins to dispose of the weeds collected. It is important that residents are motivated to take on this war as many weeds originate from residential gardens, and unless maintained properly are able to spread into the surrounding bush which creates a far bigger job.

Ecomatters have six permanent bins which are in specific locations all year round, and ten additional bins added around West Auckland during March. Look at the map for more information on where these bins are located (light green only during March, dark green all year round).
