The Governor's Year of Water Action theme for December is "Winter Ways to Take Action for Clean Water". Chloride from road and sidewalk deicers is a big concern in the Metro area. Here are some resources related to managing road salt.
At the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, Bill Herb is examining how chloride from de-icing is transported and retained in watersheds, while John Gulliver is examining chloride accumulation in soils and how porous pavement reduces the need for de-icing.
