Call for papers - SEFI 2017 Azores, Portugal

The next SEFI Annual Conference will take place on Azores islands in Portugal. The theme will be "Education Excellence for Sustainability". A wide variety of sub-themes is now available at the  conference website and you may submit your abstract at this website until 19 March 2017.

Best papers of SEFI 2016 Annual Conference in Tampere

The participants of SEFI 2016 Annual Conference have voted for the best papers. The following results were published:
- Best paper with 32 % votes is: 
Australian Indigenous Cultures in Engineering Education and Challenges of Minority by Goldfinch, Thomas; Jolly, Lesley; Leigh, Elyssebeth; Juliana Kaya, Prpic

- Best student paper with 38% of votes is:
A phenomenography of lecturing by Daniel, Scott; Mann, Llewellyn; Mazzolini, Alex
One author per winning paper will get a free particiation in the SEFI 2017 Annual Conference and will be honored at the 2017 SEFI Awards Ceremony.

SEFI participated in 2016 BEST Presidents' Meeting in Warsaw

8-14 November 2016 - Warsaw, Poland. 22nd Presidents’ Meeting (PM) took place. SEFI was represented in this event by Prof. Seweryn Spalek (BoD) who took part in the round table activities and gave a speech during the Opening Ceremony.

ENAEE 10th Anniversary

The European Network for the Accreditation of EE, from which SEFI is one of the founding organisations, celebrates its 10th Anniversary in Rome on 21 November 2016.
The ceremony, organised at the CNI (Consiglio Nazionale Ingegneri), welcomed a series of presentations given by eminent European engineering accreditation experts and was articulated on three sessions: 10 Years of Trust Building, A Look Forward and a round table discussion – The Future of Engineering Education and Profession in Europe. 
On November 22, was organised the 2016 General Assembly of ENAEE in which Prof. Jolly, Chair SEFI WG on QAA, represented us. On this occasion new members of the ENAEE Administrative Council were elected.
Congratulations to ENAEE for these 10 years of wonderful achievements!

II WorldWide EPS Meeting (WWEPS)

2nd WorldWide EPS Meeting (WWEPS) was held at the Escola Politècnica Superior (EPS) of the University of Lleida. ​Professor Carlo Noé, University of Carlo Catteneo - LIUC, represented Dr. Mike Murphy, Chair SEFI European Engineering Deans Council and SEFI President-Elect at this important event, with a plenary presentation about SEFI and the future of EE. ​SEFI would like to thank the University of Lleida and its dean Francesc Giné for the wonderful invitation. EPICES transnational meeting                              

Further to a workshop organised in the context of the SEFI 2016 Annual Conference held in Tampere in September, the latest transnational meeting was organised in Paris (Supméca) on 23 November 2016 (Supméca) of our EPICES EU Strategic Partnership project that had been extended until March 2017. The meeting was the occasion to present the project’s last achievements and to begin the discussions about the project’s report. SEFI was represented by the secretary general, F. Côme.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
PhD. candidates in Engineering Education
The PREFER project is set to kick off on 1 January 2017. It will be a EU Knowledge Alliance project including universities, industry and other stakeholders (SEFI, FEANI,...) in the engineering profession within the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium.
KU Leuven and TU Delft are looking for PhD candidates in the field of engineering education as part of a Knowledge Alliance on the Professional Roles and Employability of Future Engineers in the Erasmus+ programme. May 2017, Odense DK - The aim of the ETALEE 2017 conference is to look at forms of teaching and learning that motivate, activate and engage students. The conference is organized by the Danish Network for Engineering Education with the support of SEFI and is aimed at engineering educators and educational managers from Denmark, the Nordic countries and beyond. The language will be English. Deadline for abstracts is 16 December.
Education and Industry                                                
In April 2017, the Ninth International Materials Education Symposium will be held at the University of Cambridge. This is the latest in an established series that have welcomed hundreds of materials educators to Cambridge over the past eight years. The Cambridge event is one of a worldwide series of three Symposia. 
Extended deadine for paper submission                  
The 6th International Research Symposium on Problem Based Learning 2017 organized by the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in collaboration with the Aalborg Centre for Problem Based Learning in Engineering Science and Sustainability under the auspices of UNESCO, based at Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark. 
- 01/12/2016 - Abstract submission deadline. (It is possible to submit papers in Spanish.)

WEEF & GEDC 2016 Seoul                                        
6-10 November 2016 - Seoul hosted a meeting  The World Engineering Education Forum and the Global Engineering Deans Council. The opening plenary had 1200 participants from all over the world. GEDC, IFEES and SPEED held their conferences and general assemblies at this occasion. A report from the event should be available soon at IFEES website.
New leadership of IFEES                         
During the IFEES General Assembly held at WEEF-GEDC 2016 Seoul, IFEES members elected five new Executive Committee Members and inaugurated Michael Auer as the new IFEES President. Uriel Cukierman will continue his leadership role within IFEES until 2017 as the Immediate Past President. Check out the new board members at this link. The SEFI SG, Françoise Côme, was reappointed the first Vice President of IFEES. 
New president of SPEED                                           
 At the WEEF 2016 in Seoul, the 12th Global Student Forum was organised by the Student Platform for Engineering Education Development. SEFI would like to congratulate the new president Avneet Hira, who is a PhD student in engineering education at Purdue University. Avneet was previously the SPEED Vice-President for Educational Content and her amazing work since the past one year ensured she got elected as the President.

7-9 June 2016, Dublin - The University-Industry Interaction Conference is the annual conference of the University Industry Innovation Network (UIIN), through which UIIN brings together over 400 managers, practitioners and researchers in the field of entrepreneurial universities, collaborative innovation and university-industry interaction. IESF releases a new report
'Facing the challenges of a prosperous and responsible economy - Engineers and scientists getting involved' is a French publication which suggests short, medium and long-term solutions with measurable effects and expected benefits, and takes into account possible dificulties.

European Digital Forum 2016                                     
28 November 2016 - Nesta, Open Evidence and the European Commission’s Startup Europe initiative organized the 2016 European Digital Forum in Brussels with a focus on Financing Growth and Growing Finance. Commissioner Carlos Moedas introduced changes in financing small and medium entreprises by engaging with big companies, which would bring 75% of the money to the table. This should eventually lead to keeping the growing entreprises in Europe. More information about the Forum is at this link.
7th European University - Business Forum  
6-7 April 2017, Brussels - The Forum will bring together 400 high-level representatives from higher education institutions, large companies, SMEs, relevant European organisations and associations, as well as national, regional and local authorities from Europe and beyond. Save the dates!
Education and Training Monitor 2016
This year's edition of the Commission's Education and Training Monitor shows progress towards important EU targets, but also highlights that Member States need to make their education systems more relevant and inclusive, in particular regarding the integration of newly arrived refugees and migrants.
