 My Jewish Year Updates

Slowly but surely, Abigail Pogrebin's My Jewish Year: 18 Holidays, One Wondering Jew continues to meet early readers ahead of its March 2017 publication. Many of you have already entered this Goodreads giveaway. (If you haven't, a few days remain to try to win one of the 20 advance copies that we'll be distributing shortly.)

Early copies (galleys) have also begun making their way to reviewers, editors, producers, booksellers, and librarians. (In fact, the very first book-blogger review we've seen was posted just yesterday. We're thrilled with Amos Lassen's rave.) We don't have many print galleys left, alas. But we're delighted to consider requests for digital versions via the Edelweiss platform

Meantime, you can find tantalizing tidbits—including a sample chapter, A.J. Jacobs's foreword, and early praise—over on our website
Jewish Book Month Is Here

November 24 wasn't only Thanksgiving. That date also marked the start of Jewish Book Month, which is traditionally observed during the month preceding Hanukkah.

There are many ways to celebrate National Book Month. You might, for instance, take part in the #Readukkah challenge, organized by the Association of Jewish Libraries and the Jewish Book Council, which allows you to share your love for Jewish literature online.

You might also, of course, stock up on books to distribute as holiday gifts. (If you're looking for some suggestions, you might check out librarian Rachel Kamin's excellent article for Library Journal, which happens to cite two of our own FTB titles: Jessamyn Hope's Safekeeping and our re-issue of Edward Lewis Wallant's The Pawnbroker, which features a foreword by Dara Horn.) Remember that Fig Tree Books offers direct-sale and volume discounts. Details for those can be found on each book's page on our website.

Finally, if you happen to be someone who regularly writes about Jewish books for a blog or other online venue, please consider joining the Jewish Book Carnival. Another project of the Association of Jewish Libraries, this "itinerant" project moves from one host website to another each month, posting news, reviews, and interviews featuring Jewish books and authors as submitted by bloggers and editors. The Carnival posts "go live" on or about the 15th of each month. And in December, the Jewish Book Month edition of the Carnival will be hosted over on the Fig Tree Books blog. Learn more, check out past Carnivals, and find instructions for submitting a post at the Carnival HQ.
And Speaking of Our Blog...

Miss us between newsletters? In addition to our frequent posts on social media, we maintain a blog, where we share news, updates, and other information on a weekly basis. And we've recently made matters easier for you by adding a blog-subscription feature. Just enter your e-mail address in the box indicated, and look for a confirmation message.

Be sure to check out our series featuring past winners of the Edward Lewis Wallant Award, a prize named in memory of the author of The Pawnbroker (our latest installment spotlights Thane Rosenbaum's Elijah Visible). The blog is also where we share new online discoveries relating to American Jewish Experience (AJE), broadly defined. Please go take a look—FigTreeBooks.net/blog. (And we love comments!)

See you all again soon!
