Dear Friends, Colleagues and Partners,

From India we get good news as AIR's efforts in DRM are recognised by the Government .

This month we also bring more details about the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) General Assembly, held in Cuba in October. To support the presentations, the event benefited from live DRM transmissions in short wave, too.

Below you will also get more information on some DRM activity in France and on a DRM event held recently in Austria. You will also find an interesting article on the multi-standard software defined receiver unveiled this autumn.

If you ever wondered if it is better to digitise radio piecemeal or at one go for the benefit of a whole country, please have a look and react to some of the thoughts just published by Radio World

We are also ready to announce the winner of the 2016 DRM Enterprise Award so, please, read on. Congratulations to the winner!

If you have exciting news about you or you want your company to feature in the next Newsletter projectoffice@drm.org can tell you how!

Please do not forget to join us on Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.

DRM Short Wave Tests in Brazil

Since the end of October, Radio Nacional da Amazônia of EBC (the Brazilian Public Broadcaster) has been transmitting in DRM30 on short wave (9.750 kHz). The transmission is a trial organized by ABRADIG (Brazilian Digital Radio Association) and EBC, with the support of the DRM Consortium. It was a low power (150 W) transmitter installed at the Rodeador Site in Brasília, the capital in the centre of the country. The aim of this test was to assess the behaviour of the equipment, signal quality and system stability. The coverage area was expected to be small because of the low power but, despite all this, the signal was detected all around Brazil and there were some intermittent signals received in New Zealand. After good initial feedback the tests should be resumed in the future.
