2016 Georgia Trustees Wine Challenge Awards

Although we haven’t entered wine competitions, we recently submitted two wines to the Georgia Trustees Wine Challenge, sponsored by the Georgia Wine Producers. We were told that as the bottles were unwrapped following the blind tasting for Best Vinifera, the judges were surprised that both competitors were from the same vineyard—ours! One was our 2014 Boriana, judged Best White Vinifera, and the other our 2014 Cabernet Franc, named Best Red Vinifera. Boriana won and later took Best of Competition, the event’s highest award, and received The Oglethorpe Trophy – “Best wine made from Georgia-grown grapes.” We are delighted to join our fellow Georgia vineyards and farm wineries in this statewide competition focused on Georgia wines.

2014 Boriana (Petit Manseng)
  • Best of Competition (100% Georgia Grown)
  • Best Vinifera (100% Georgia Grown)
  • Best White Vinifera (100% Georgia Grown)
2014 Cabernet Franc
  • Best Red Vinifera (100% Georgia Grown)
The Georgia Trustees Wine Challenge was established a year ago to measure the progress in Georgia’s wine industry. Georgia Wine Producers was organized nearly two years ago as a statewide organization representing all of Georgia’s farm wineries and vineyards. We feel it is important to support this organization.

Yes, we can ship wine!

Restrictions apply, but we can ship within Georgia and to several other states.  Email info@stonewallcreek.com or call 706.212.0584 for information.

“Gail’s Jelly Factory”
Our Winery Tasting Room shuts down on Sundays and doesn’t reopen until Thursday, so we tend to have several opened bottles of wine leftover. What to do? Tasting Room/Special Events Manager Gail McDaniel to the rescue with wine jelly. Our tasting room kitchen is now known as “Gail’s Jelly Factory." A retired caterer, Gail consulted the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the “officially approved jellies” are available at the Winery Tasting Room. How about Pepper Wine Jelly or Spiced Wine Jelly wrapped in cellophane with a bow?
Happy Thanksgiving to all and especially to the firefighters battling wildfires in our North Georgia Mountains. As we write this, more than 9,000 acres have burned in Rabun County alone. Today, the smoke has increased and the helicopters carrying large buckets of water are gone. No active fires in our neighborhood but hope for rain and, as the temperatures drop, snow.

Best,

Carla and Carl Fackler

And our wonderful crew:  Miguel Barcenas (vineyards), Nate Fackler and Alex Blackwood (vineyards, winery, tasting room), and Gail McDaniel, Miranda Hawks, Sherry and John Schomburg and Ramelle Garland (tasting room) and our official greeter, Max.
