Once again this year, Connie Cummings and Joe Ivers are issuing a challenge to all of us to support Micah’s Backpack not only with our time and energy, but also with our money. They are offering to match up to $1,000 given to support the infrastructure of MBP. These funds will go to pay for things like upkeep and gas for the Mobile Backpack bus, shelving for the food room, plastic bins to store food, and copying costs for the educational pieces we include each week in the bags. We hope that you will join with the Cummings/Ivers family and help us turn $1000 into $2000 by the end of the year. Feel free to use this link http://micahsbackpack.org/giving/ or mail a check with Cummings/Ivers Challenge in the memo line to 2308 Merrimac Rd Blacksburg VA 24060.
Captain Louie's Future Leaders at Kipps Elementary School and the Blacksburg Police Department held a food drive challenge for all of the Blacksburg elementary schools in November. They challenged each school to bring in as many MBP food items as possible. The school who donated the most items would receive $2,000. Captain Louie's Future Leaders came to MBP every packing night in November to count the items collected and to help us pack. Thank you so much to these kids and their adult leaders for so much hard work and for all the food you collected!
Thank you to all the wonderful groups that come out to help pack! Pictured above is a group from Northside Presbyterian and another group from Chi Delta Alpha at Virginia Tech. Each week we have several different groups joining us for packing. Thank you to groups and to individuals. You make Micah's Backpack a success!
