Grow Some Good
Providing Educational School Gardens on Maui
In this Issue:

Happening In the Gardens
Planting "Grow Cups" is a fun way to see what a plant's roots are doing beneath the earth's surface. Students at several schools have participated in this project this fall. They use a variety of seeds, which they place in the cups, pressing them around the sides, and then filling the cups with potting soil, leaving the seeds visible through exterior of cup. A black paper sleeve is put around the cup to encourage the roots to grow out and along the clear sidewall.

When the sleeves were removed after several weeks, students got to see the amazing work that roots are doing for the plant, underground, where they can’t normally see! They also got to see up close what many different types of seeds look like and now can identify the little sprouts from those seeds when they grow in the garden. Planting "Grow Cups" is a very fun and inspiring project for students.

Have Enough Stuff?

Do you have more than enough stuff?
This holiday season, consider asking for the gift of school gardens – a gift for all of us as we inspire our future farmers, chefs, teachers, scientist and community leaders. Share the link with loved ones or make a donation on their behalf. If you’d like to help out, contributions are easily facilitated through our website. Your donations are always appreciated by our keiki farmers!
