The Asheville Kiwanis Club meets for lunch, a business meeting and a guest speaker from 12-1:30pm each Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, off Merrimon Ave near downtown.

We were glad to have Ruth Kiralfy from the Columbus Ga. Club.   She was the first woman to join her club and has 29 years perfect attendance. She was in town visiting her daughter for the holiday, and came to our club to make up her absence.

  • We will be cooking lunch for Steadfast  House on Saturday November 26th at 11:30.
  • Pick up some business cards at a meeting and give them out to potential members and invite them to a meeting.
  • We received a note from the Dictionary Project thanking us for our donation of $460.
  • We received $60 for our 2 volunteers that worked Asheville on Tap.
  • Our Club is a recipient of Honorary Day of Sponsorship at WCQS thanks to the generosity of Doris Prak.  We will get to have a day of free advertising on WCQS  to increase awareness of Kiwanis in the community.  Thank You Doris!

  • ABCCM has Christmas Cards.  Your donation is tax deductible and 100% of the money goes to support Steadfast House and VRQ.  See Rick at the welcome table to get some cards and support a great cause!
  • We will ring bells  December 2nd at Sam's.

Our Club is helping with the Angel Tree at Asheville Mall on December 3rd from 12-4.  Sign up to help at the next meeting.  
Christmas Shopping Spree with Kids
Thursday, December 15th
Meet at 6:00 for dinner at J&S in Candler, then we'll go to KMart to shop with the kids
 
We will be delivering flowers to nursing homes on Friday, December 16th between 12-4.   If you have a truck, and can help, let Jensen know.  
Speaker Spotlight
 
  • Our Speaker today was Lisa Adkins with the Buncombe County Schools Foundation.
  • The mission of the Buncombe County Schools Foundation is to establish partnerships with local individuals, businesses, corporations,and other foundations for the purpose of supporting education in the Buncombe County School System.
  • They have recently decided to focus on putting The Leader in Me into Buncombe County Elementary Schools.  It is based on Steven Covey's 7 Habits and teaches students critical skills such as personal responsibility and getting along with others.  
  • The fixed cost to start the program in a school is $20,000.  BCSF has a goal of giving each school $7500 to get started.  
  • Our club has given $1,000 to Weaverville Elementary and Koontz Intermediate to support their school's program.
