CALL FOR CULTURE MAKERS

We are exploring new funding for 2017 and we want to work with culture makers to share connecting experiences across the lakes. This could be music, performance, design, spoken word or any artistic medium that creatively animates the Great Lakes Commons vision. Get in touch to explore what your project could and look and feel like.

DECEMBER 8 BIOREGIONAL MEETUP

The world is watching the courage of water protectors in Standing Rock right now so lets gather around the Great Lakes to lean in and step up. Open to anyone protecting the Great Lakes and curious and committed to bring stories and strategies from Standing Rock to our shores. Pipelines, water, and politics connect us all, so let's put our heads and hearts together to protect the sacred.

FRENCH CHARTER TRANSLATION

Our Commons Charter needs to reflect and celebrate the people it represents as much as possible. One way to do this is through language. That’s why we have been working to translate the Charter into different languages this year. We are now happy to share the French version of Great Lakes Commons Charter or Charte des Communs des Grands Lacs.

We are grateful to Morgane Kot and Christopher Reynolds for their work since this translation would not have been possibly without their help. We want more Charter translations that reflect "we, the people of the Great Lakes."

GLC IN THE MEDIA

We have been reaching out to various media outlets to help tell our story and 2 examples include:

Water Canada magazine featured our Bottled Water in the Great Lakes map on page 42 because it raises many questions at a time when the Province of Ontario is reviewing its water permitting rules. The map compares how much each region permits for bottled water companies with local bottled water consumption. The only map of its kind, we took a Great Lakes basin approach since what happens in one political jurisdiction affects the water flowing into anther jurisdiction. See our blog post for the full story.

Page 77 of Thunder Bay's Walleye magazine also did a story called "The Great Lake's Ultimate Challenge" with our Outreach coordinator Paul Baines, on what makes GLC unique in its approach among many other water groups, including the Commons Charter to animate a shared commitment for belonging and responsibility.
