PATA welcomes delegates to NTFF 2016 in Cox’s Bazar


Delegates at the PATA New Tourism Frontiers Forum 2016 in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh have been spending day one of the event on the Technical Tour and Tourism Marketing Treasure Hunt. Day two (Friday, November 25) features a conference packed full of dynamic speakers from the public and private sectors. Keynote speakers include The Hon. Rashed Khan Menon, MP, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, and Mr Xu Jing, the UNWTO’s Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Designing a sustainable tourism brand - an integrative approach to building a responsible coastal destination’.

Unlocking the sales secrets to traveller tribes at PATAcademy-HCD - FIVE slots left 
There’s still time to book your place at the next PATAcademy-HCD in December. This three-day event, on December 7-9, takes place at the PATA Engagement Hub in Bangkok. Guest presenters include Jackson Pek, VP and General Counsel - Asia Pacific for the Amadeus IT Group. Jackson will be examining the purchasing trends of six types of travellers (known as tribes) and explaining how service providers may sell more effectively to meet the specific needs of each tribe.

Amadeus provides the technology that keeps the travel sector moving - from initial search to making a booking, from pricing to ticketing, from managing reservations to managing check-in and departure processes. The company works in more than 190 markets with a worldwide team of more than 14,000 people.

The Executive Development Institute for Tourism (EDIT) programme will take place at the School of Travel Industry Management (TIM), University of Hawaii at Manoa, in Honolulu, Hawaii on May 1-12, 2017. The PATA Foundation is currently seeking applications for the 2017 PATA EDIT Scholarship valued at US$5,000 to cover registration, tuition fees and partial support for accommodation and subsistence expenses for one worthy participant.

Northeast Asia sees decrease in travel website reaches in 2016
 
According to the latest figures from comScore the percentage of unique visitors to travel websites in September 2016 decreased in most destinations in Northeast Asia. Only Hong Kong SAR witnessed a surge, increasing from 51.43 percent to 59 percent. Chinese Taipei experienced a drop from 48.8 percent to 45.7 percent while China dropped from 34.66 to 30.4 percent this year. Meanwhile, there was only a slight decline in travel website reaches in Japan (51.02 percent to 50.6 percent).
