GWOW welcomes and transitions new and returning students to the Hilltop during the first six weeks of the academic year. Applications to apply to be a GWOW coordinator are now LIVE.

If you happen to get one of those calls, where you can just sense the anxiety in your student's voice, stay calm, encourage them and remind them that they're a Hoya for a reason. Your calm reassurance can make all the difference this time of year.
If your student is not traveling home for the Thanksgiving break, be sure to reach out and send your well-wishes from home. They'll appreciate hearing from you. Also, a number of organizations host Thanksgiving dinners for students staying on campus over break.
Thanksgiving is a great time to give your student a pep talk. The first round of final exams can be stressful. Encourage your student to prioritize their wellness, including sleep and eating. They should also take full advantage of the Study Breaks offered throughout campus and in the residence halls.
Make a plan now. If your student is spending winter break at home, now is the time to discuss travel plans. The residence halls close at10am on Wednesday, December 21st, 2016.
The end of the semester can be very busy, with papers and final exams. Remind your student to be on the look out for emails from Residential Living explaining the semester closing procedures.
As a reminder for all families, students will not have access to their residence over winter break. Please remind your student to bring all valuables, medicines, clothing, passports, etc. that they may need over winter break. Residence halls open at 10 am on Tuesday,January 10, 2017, there is no early arrival process. Classes begin on Wednesday, January 11, 2017.
Academic Resource Center
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) works with students with disabilities to ensure access to programs and facilities at Georgetown. They provide academic support for students through study skills workshops, individual consultations and tutoring. Specialized academic support and advising is provided to student athletes through ARC.
TheMartin Luther King Jr. Day of Service unites the Georgetown University community and the Washington, DC community through service, reflection, and celebration.
In honoring Dr. King’s legacy, we can be inspired by his words: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” We hope this day of action and contemplation as a community will serve to remind us of the values that animate our University, as well as our unique, present responsibility to our neighbors.
This year the MLK Day of Service is Saturday, January 14, 2017. The day will begin with a kick-off on campus at 10:00am and conclude with community celebration at Cesar Chavez Parkside High School. Breakfast, lunch, and transportation to and from Georgetown’s campuses will be provided. There are two opportunities for leadership and involvement. (Please find interest formshere.)
MLK Day of Service Planning Committee: The planning committee will meet weekly, from the end of October 2016 until the MLK Day of Service, to envision and coordinate the day’s events.
MLK Day of Service Site Leader: Site Leaders will play the vital roles both of leading individual service teams and of facilitating reflection.
