Attend: “Culture Wars” Mediterranean Seminar Winter 2017 Workshop/ LAMS (Late Antique-Medieval Studies) Symposium (17 & 18 February: Pomona College)
The Mediterranean Seminar, and the Late Antique-Medieval Studies Program (LAMS) of the Claremont Colleges invite participants to the 2017 Mediterranean Seminar Winter Workshop in conjunction with the third biennial LAMS Symposium to be held on the campus of Pomona College, on 17 & 18 February, on the topic “Culture Wars.”
The Workshop will take place on Friday, 17 February at Smith Campus Center, 201 (Pomona College), with registration at 9:30am, followed by three workshop papers and a keynote address by Michael Bonner (Near Eastern Studies: University of Michigan).

• Victoria Ballmes (Religious Studies: UC Santa Barbara): "The Socio-Legal Construction of a Christian Empire"
• Sergio La Porta (Armenian Studies: Fresno State): "Breaking Bad: Apostasy and cultural transgression in medieval Anatolia"
• Andrew Devereux (History: Loyola Marymount): “The Eastern Chimera: Spanish Views of the Turks and Relations with the Ottomans (15th-early 16th centuries)”
The Symposium will take place on Saturday, 18 February at Smith Campus Center, 201, beginning at 9:00am, and will feature nine papers, plus a second keynote address by Yitzhak Hen (History: Ben Gurion University of the Negev).
