Thursday, November 17: BYD: Forgiving A Rapist; and CHE Lessons
  • Pray for "U" as she is struggling to forgive the man who raped her, after he came to apologize.
  • Pray for this week's BYD lessons:
    • Physical: Health issues
    • Spiritual: Forgiving others
Friday, November 18: Micronesia: Suicide Prevention; and 2017 Team
  • Karyn Sorenson, Bridges Micronesia Director, is trying to coordinate with the World Health Organization (WHO) to find interventions that might successfully help with the high suicide rate in Micronesia. In a scenario all too common, two teenagers recently took their own lives within days of each other. Karyn was contacted by islanders begging for help to curb this terribly high rate of suicide. Please pray that God would give wisdom to Karyn and connections to helpful resources to intervene.
  • Karyn is also currently trying to put together a young adult team for the 2017 summer mission's trip to Yap to work at their annual youth camp. This is a very challenging trip with high temperatures, high humidity, mosquitoes, sleeping on thin mats on concrete floors, no air conditioning, working with youth who have deep hurts for seven straight days, and with little sleep! It is difficult to find individuals with the level of maturity and self-sacrifice necessary for success. Please pray that God would gather just the right people to minister effectively under such remote and challenging circumstances.
Saturday, November 19: Kosovo CHE: Scabies Outbreak
  • Pray for the Community Health Evangelists (CHEs) as they minister to the many families in the informal settlement of Kosovo as they deal with a bad outbreak of scabies.
Sambesiwe is struggling with terrible headaches and stomach pain that is moving towards her chest.
Sunday, November 20: OVC: Camp Prep; Female Facilitators; and New Coordinator

  • Pray that we can recruit more female volunteer facilitators and that they will be committed.
  • Pray for us as we look for the new Bridges Youth Development (BYD) ministry coordinator.
Some of the wonderful children in the Orphan and Vulnerable Children ministry

  • Pray for the 21 new students in the Ethiopian Orthodox MA Program as they travel to Mekele in preparation for their first two courses!
  • Pray for me (Dennis) as I prepare to teach Orthodox Community Health Education Training of Trainers 1 (OCHE TOT 1).
Tuesday, November 22: Philippi CHE: Spiritual Refreshment; and Passion for Growth
  • Pray for Nono (26 years old) as she is spiritually dry and wants God to renew and refresh her.

Wednesday, November 23: Sweet Home CHE: Healing Needed; Business Momentum; and Celebrate Recovery Leadership
  • Pray for healing for Nomxolisi (30 years old) who has pain in her leg and for Sambesiwe (22 years old) as she has headaches and stomach pain that is moving towards her chest.
  • Pray for Nobuntu (45 years old) as her business is stuck and needs momentum.
  • Pray for someone who can step in and run the Celebrate Recovery meetings when Sisanda has other commitments.
Nobuntu's business his stuck and needs momentum!

Article: Principal stabbed in front of pupils

By Lindile Sifile | Nov 15, 2016

Principal Nothemba Lebepe was doing her routine praying ritual in her car when a former teacher allegedly smashed the window of her car with a hammer and stabbed her several times.

This was about six hours after the teacher, 42, had allegedly sent Lebepe, 52, an SMS threatening to put her in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

The teacher was expelled last year for having fake qualifications.

Gauteng education department spokesman Oupa Bodibe confirmed the teacher was expelled in 2015 for fraudulent qualifications.

Yesterday morning, pupils at Paul Mosaka Primary School in Pimville, Soweto, ran to safety after they witnessed the teacher sitting on top of Lebepe stabbing her more than seven times in the upper body in the parking lot.

"He broke the window and she moved to the passenger seat. He then ran around the car and caught her. He then knelt on her inside the car and stabbed her," said a teacher who witnessed the incident.

The man then dragged her out of the car and continued stabbing her.

"Community members shouted at him but he retaliated by throwing stones at them," said the teacher.

The West Rand mother of three was fighting for her life at Milpark Hospital where she was booked for emergency surgery yesterday.

The teacher apparently gained access to the school premises by pushing a female patroller at the gate to the ground. He was arrested after community members blocked him at the gate.

The teacher had earlier sent Lebepe an SMS at 1.51am that read: "... you must walk with the wheelchair as soon as possible for the rest of your life (sic)".

A parent was alerted to the incident by his daughter who is in Grade 1. "She came home running. She was in tears and had wet herself out of shock. I then came to the school to control the gate and ensure the safety of staff. Everybody is still shocked."

The school suspended its exams and sent some pupils home.

Lebepe's family said she and the teacher had been in conflict for more than 10 years. This mostly centered around his qualifications.

"He had issues with her about her role in the investigation. He would send her death threats. It got to a point where she opened a case of intimidation against him, but the case never amounted to anything," said Lebepe's niece Thando Mabija.

Police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubele confirmed the intimidation case. " We know he is an ex-teacher who was fired last year and was in conflict with the principal."

Makhubele confirmed the suspect was arrested and would appear in court soon for attempted murder.
