I’m presenting a webinar on "Briefing, scoping and contracting for successful facilitation outcomes" via IAF Shanghai chapter for facilitators in China next week.
I've decided to offer more broadly to anyone who is interested wherever you are. 4:00 pm December 7 AEDT. That's Melbourne, Australia time. Check what time that is for you.

The Essential Facilitator - Next workshops

Melbourne - Dec 1 & 2,
Canberra - Feb 23 & 24

Participants in workshop practise practise session
Our core facilitator-training workshop is now rebranded The Essential Facilitator because we believe it's essential in today’s world of work. Being able to facilitate a meeting will definitely improve your career prospects.
The workshop is practical, well grounded in theory and is aligned with the core competencies of the International Association of Facilitators. Groups are small so that everyone has the opportunity to practice and receive feedback. And you’ll receive an individual coaching or mentoring session with me after the course.
It's run by an IAF Certified Professional Facilitator and Assessor with many years experience in groups, process facilitation and training and mentoring facilitators (AKA Rhonda).
The dates for the next workshop have changed. Melbourne is now December 1& 2, Canberra now 23 & 24 February 2017.
My facilitation training has evolved over 4 iterations in 20 years. The Foundations of Facilitation ran 18 times from 2012 to 2016. You may be receiving this because you were a workshop participant :-) Please let your colleagues know about the next workshops.
Download a flyer, and from there you an also view a short video and get a copy of “Our approach to facilitation and facilitation training”..
Early Bird ($1040 plus gst) officially closes on November 18 but I'll keep it open until Tuesday. It’s very easy to book and pay on-line.
I also run the program in-house to develop internal cohorts of facilitators.

Register by contacting me

I'm also happy to take a call to discuss whether it's the right program for you.

Facilitation and All That Jazz – new blog

One day many moons ago, while I was preparing to run a facilitator training workshop I was also listening to an old recording of Miles Davis playing Bye Bye Blackbird. As I listened it struck me how much jazz and facilitation are connected. Ever since, I’ve woven that connection into my facilitation training workshops.
Playing around with the idea of jazz SCAT singing we use the term as an acronym to further examine … read more

How to Refocus a Meeting After Someone Interrupts

A good read for facilitators.
Rebecca Knight draws on Roger Schwarz (author of The Skilled Facilitator) for insights and suggestions. Roger says “ The key to successfully dealing with interrupters is to quash your frustration and instead “operate from a mindset of curiosity”. Roger goes on to offer some very useful suggestions for handling interruptions and keeping the meeting focused on the agenda and outcomes.
Judith White from Tuck School of Business suggests use of body language to take back control. Whilst this may work in some contexts I was concerned about the cultural appropriateness of her ideas e.g. holding the gaze of the interrupter for 5 seconds. What do you think?

Interested in becoming a CPF?

Another free webinar December 12

To become a Certified Professional Facilitator (CPFTM) with the International Association of Facilitators a candidate must have sufficient experience and skills as a process facilitator to demonstrate each of the six Core Facilitator Competencies. The IAF website has information and from here you can access dates for the next certification event and documentation.
Once again Dave Rees and I will be running a webinar for anyone interested in what is involved in the CPF Process and what happens on the assessment day. We are both CPFs and IAF Assessors and have run this webinar a number of times. Attendees (from around the globe) report it really helped them decide if they were ready for the assessment event and it helped them prepare.
The webinar is open to all and is free. Register here. December 12, 6 pm AEDT, 8 pm New Zealand. Find out the time in your part of the world via World Clock.
