If you are receiving this newsletter then it is most likely that you have expressed an interest in our peer mentoring project in one way or another, but for those of you who are not familiar with us yet, here is a bit of background.

Since our launch in early 2014, Change Step has made huge strides in the support available for veterans struggling to return to civilian life. Delivered by veterans for veterans, Change Step offers peer mentoring to military veterans and their families and to date, we have supported over 1000 service users across Wales.

Our innovative, informal approach to veteran support has been well received by statutory organisations who refer veterans into our services, such as Veterans NHS Wales and the Welsh Police Forces. We are extremely pleased that our network of partnership working is ever growing and increasingly strengthens the support we offer to our service users!

Change Step Veterans’ Gardening is funded by the Royal British Legion and provides a productive and social outlet, allowing participants to develop new skills, pick up formal qualifications, and contribute to communities throughout Wales.

Members of the public can nominate veterans who need help with their garden — and our team of volunteers will do the work in exchange for a donation to our project.

We also work in open spaces, including public parks, village greens and hospital gardens.

Please get in touch to tell us about a veteran who could benefit from our work, or a public area which needs a bit of attention.

We’ll be happy to pay a visit, introduce the work of Change Step, and turn an overgrown patch into a manageable and enjoyable garden.

Change Step Aged Veterans is dedicated to identifying the needs of former Armed Forces personnel aged 65 or over and their families in Wales.

We help older veterans live an active and fulfilling life by enabling them to access the wide range of support on offer.

What can Change Step Aged Veterans offer?

a contact point for veterans, their families and carers, with help to access other services
community-based peer mentoring delivered by veterans for veterans
help to tackle isolation and loneliness

Improving support

The Aged Veterans project, which is funded by the Royal British Legion through the Armed Forces Covenant will also help to improve the support on offer by boosting understanding of older veterans’ needs.
