The California Local School Wellness Policy Collaborative brings together state leaders committed to supporting schools in creating and implementing strong wellness policies. School Wellness Tips from America's Healthiest Schools      

Lisa Perry, National Physical Education and Health Education Advisor from Alliance for a Healthier Generation shares several school wellness success stories in a recent blog post on American School Health Association's website. With 328 schools named to Alliance's list of America's Healthiest Schools, Lisa details on how leaders from schools and districts across the country shared how they are finding creative ways to improve healthy eating and physical activity before, during and after school.    

Pasadena Unified's Health Program Wins Top Statewide Honor  

The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) has been chosen as one of 56 recipients of the state’s leading educational honor, the Golden Bell Award. The Golden Bell Award, now in its 37th year, is sponsored by the California School Boards Association and recognizes public school programs that are innovative and sustainable, make a demonstrated difference for students and focus on meeting the needs of all public school students. PUSD is being recognized for its Building a Healthy School Environment program, which increases students’ physical activity on campus; access to healthy foods at school; knowledge about healthy eating through experiential learning in school gardens; student engagement and training through paid high school internships; and the number and depth of community partnerships. Be a School Wellness Champion with this new customizable, digital toolkit, designed to increase awareness of the components of the Local School Wellness Policy and provide strategies for school staff and parents to get involved. Share the parent flyer (also available in Spanish), newsletter insert, presentation slides, and social media posts to engage parents and school staff in supporting and implementing a strong Local School Wellness Policy. Click here to download the kit!

Funding Opportunity—School Food Support Initiative         

The School Food Support Initiative (SFSI), in conjunction with the Life Time Foundation, the Chef Ann Foundation, and the Whole Kids Foundation, is accepting grant funding applications from school districts interested in strategic planning and transitioning to scratch-cooking operations. Submit an application by November 30, 2016
