The Year of Mercy is coming to a close.

Greetings!  I hope all of you are enjoying this (likely) last bit of warmth before winter comes.  A reminder to 1st Reconciliation families - make sure your child brings their snowflake to class.  5th graders, we're still looking for new servers.  If you're interested, return the paperwork received or contact me.

After year long jubilee, focusing on Mercy, the Year of Mercy is coming to a close this coming Sunday.  While the jubilee year is ending, the need for the Mercy of God to seep into every part of our world, still remains.

Mercy is our featured topic this week and we're giving you some ways to live it out in your everyday life.  And as always, you'll find our upcoming schedule and our FORMED feature.

Peace, Jenna Ripp
Children's Christmas Choir
Boys and girls in grades 1-5 are invited to be part of the Children's Choir that will sing for the 4pm Mass on Christmas Eve.  We will rehearse on Tuesday afternoons from 4-5pm in the church.  Rehearsal dates are November 15, 22 and 29 and December 6, 13, and 20.  Even if you missed the first rehearsal, you're more than welcome to join the choir.  If you have any question, please contact Joy at the parish office at 831-6531 or email.
An Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy with Fr. Mike Schmitz
Check out this video on how the Catholic Church DECLARES SAINTS.  It's a great little informative video and one you can even watch with your kids!
Practicing Mercy in Everyday Life
  • Go to Confession - It's a great gift of Mercy from God. We all mess up, but the beauty of our faith and the Father's love, is that He's always ready to pour his mercy over us, if we ask for it.  St. Bernard's offers confessions on Tuesdays from 6-7pm, Saturdays from 3:30-4:30pm and on the first Saturday of the month at 9am.  Advent will also provide a few other opportunities.
  • Pray for Mercy - Try this prayer for the Year of Mercy. You may want to slightly change the words, since the Year of Mercy is ending, but it's still relevant! Lord Jesus Chris, you have taught us / to be merciful like the heavenly Father, / and have told us that whoever sees you sees God. / Show us your face and we will be saved. / You are the visible face of the invisible Father, / of the God who manifests his power / above all by forgiveness and mercy: / let the Church be your visible face in the world. / Send your Spirit and consecrate / every one of us with its anointing, / so that the Jubilee of Mercy / may be a year of grace from the Lord, / and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, / may bring good news to the poor, / proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. Amen. You can also try the Divine Mercy Chaplet. It is a simple but powerful prayer asking for the Lord's Mercy on the World. Find that here.
  • Learn about the Image of Divine Mercy - And St. Faustina.  It's a well-known image (pictured below) with a lot of history and meaning behind it. Check out this link to discover what it all shows.
  • Remember the Works of Mercy - Corporal.  Feed the Hungry. Give Drink to the Thirsty. Shelter the Homeless. Visit the Sick. Visit the Imprisoned. Bury the Dead. Give Alms to the Poor. This link will teach you about the Corporal Works of Mercy.  AND Spiritual. Counseling the Doubtful. Instructing the Ignorant. Admonishing the Sinner. Comforting the Sorrowful. Forgiving Injuries. Bearing Wrongs Patiently. Praying for the Living and the Dead. This link will teach you about the Spiritual Works of Mercy.
  • Watch these Videos - Year of Mercy in 60 - With Legos! This is cute one to show the kids. Mercy is Greater. This one shows the greatness of God's Mercy. Mercy. This is from Chris Stefanik and is about living out mercy in a practical, everyday situation...especially when you have kids!

FORMED FEATURE
  • Program: Divine Mercy in the Second Greatest Story Ever Told. There are a number of episodes in this program. Scroll through and find one that sounds interesting to you, or watch all of them! Or check out Consoling the Heart of Jesus. It's advertised as a group study program, but you can still get a lot from it as an individual.
  • Movie. Check out Ocean of Mercy. It's a documentary, with similar themes to the program "Divine Mercy" mentioned above, but shorter, as it's a movie.
  • Confession. Head to the audio tab and there's an entire section on the Year of Mercy. I'd suggest Confession by Fr. Larry Richards.
  • Sunday's Scripture: Check out Opening the Word for a reflection on the Solemnity of Christ the King.
