Pima County Attorney’s Office Partners with Uber to Offer Free Rides
this Holiday Season

Tucson, Arizona – Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall announces another collaboration with ridesharing service, Uber, to provide a safe transportation alternative for Tucson area residents during this holiday season. Uber will offer first-time riders $15 off their first ride and will donate $5 to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).  Existing Uber users will be able to enter to win free Uber rides on New Year’s Eve.

The Pima County Attorney’s Office prosecutes thousands of drunk and drugged drivers each year.  “It’s holiday time, a time for joy and celebration.  But some of the most dangerous times of the year on our roads are the days between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. The Pima County Attorney’s Office is partnering with Uber to give a gift of a free ride to folks so they can put safety first and celebrate the holidays responsibly,” said LaWall.

MADD statistics show that every two minutes a person is injured in a drunk driving crash.  Every day, 27 people in the United States die from DUI crashes – one every 53 minutes.  And, in 2015, 295 people were killed in DUI-related crashes in Arizona. No other crime in America presents such horrific statistics.

New users can access the free $15 ride credit by downloading the Uber app, setting up an account, and entering the promo code:  PCAOHoliday.  Existing users can qualify to win free New Year’s Eve Uber rides by entering the promo code:  WINRIDESNOW.  Winners will be notified on December 28, 2016.  For every new user who signs up with the promo code and takes a ride, Uber will donate $5 to the Arizona Chapter of MADD. This discount ends after January 1, 2017. https://get.uber.com/go/pcaoholiday.

“Uber is thrilled to once again partner with the Pima County Attorney's Office and MADD Arizona to help reduce DUIs in Arizona,” said Steve Thompson, Uber Arizona General Manager. “We thank Uber drivers who are dedicated to providing reliable and safe transportation options to their neighbors, residents, and visitors across the Grand Canyon state this holiday season."

“With everyone enjoying the beautiful weather and preparing for the busy holiday season, it’s more important than ever to plan ahead for a non-drinking designated driver if your plans include alcohol.  MADD is grateful to Uber and the Pima County Attorney's Office for their continued efforts for safer roads in Arizona. Joint efforts like these enable MADD to turn donations directly into lives saved by preventing drunk driving in the state,” said Jason Frazier, MADD Arizona Program Director.
