School Camp Updates & Reminders

 

Dear Parents,

(See attached the initial letter of information that was sent out a the beginning of term 4)

Fundraising activities start next Thursday, with the first of 3 lunch time ‘Sausage Sizzles’ being held, with all profits raised going directly to school camp funds.


Early in 2017 the children will take part in selling a raffle with all profits earned by each child coming directly off their school camp fee.

Then finally the children will sell chocolate bars with all profits raised going directly to school camp funds.

 

We would like to remind you that the school offers a payment plan; weekly payments can be made to make the cost of this camp more manageable. Please see Michelle at the school office if this plan is appropriate for you.

‘Camp Iona School Camp’ - March 20th to 23rd, 2017

Year 5 & 6

 

Dear Parents,

In 2017 your child will be attending Camp Iona set inland from Herbert amongst rolling North Otago farmland. Founded in 1938 the camp has been a part of North Otago and its surrounding districts for over 75 years attracting thousands and children and adults. The campsite sits on 2.2 hectares of land with native bush and walking tracks nearby.

The facilities the camp offers are outstanding. Take time to check out the ‘Camp Iona’ web site listed (http://www.campiona.co.nz/)

The children will spend 4 days at the Camp taking part in a variety of outdoor activities in and around the camp site.

The children will experience new activities, learn new skills, participate in physical challenges and have fun. These activities might include overnight tenting, tramping, archery, abseiling, and confidence course, raft building, canoeing, sailing, and swimming in the Waianakarua River. Outdoor education can play a huge role in a child's growth and development.

 

We will require one adult per six children, including myself, Miss Elvines and Miss Blackwood. Parents should have a suitable standard of fitness and be confident in the water. All parent helpers are subject to a police vet check. Please email me with an ‘Expression of Interest’ if you are keen to join us for the 4 days (samk@arthurst.school.nz). I realise that this is a huge commitment for people to make, but assure you that you will have a fantastic, memorable experience.

Transport to and from the camp will be via bus. Parents joining us for the week will need to bring their own vehicle as they will be required to transport children to and from some of the activities locate outside the school camp boundary. These parents are required to have a full driver’s licence and a warranted / registered vehicle.  

 

The menu will be created in collaboration with the children. All food will be provided other than home baking and breakfast spreads.

 

The estimated cost per child to attend this camp will be $215.00.  The cost includes the following – accommodation, transportation, qualified instructors, catering, first aid supplies and costs associated with equipment hire - abseiling / archery / flying fox / raft building / canoes / boats.

Your child will take part in fundraising activities to help offset the cost of the camp.It would be a great idea to set up something with your child at home. Recording money earned for jobs done gives the children increased ownership of the camp.
