Church Board Update:
The board met on Tuesday, November 15. Below is a brief update from the board.
Ground Breaking
We wish to express our sincere gratitude to all who assisted with the Ground Breaking Ceremony on October 30. This was a significant event in the life of our church and we were greatly encouraged to see so many from Skyview’s past and present in attendance. Please continue to hold this process up to the Lord as we seek His guidance and provision at each step along the way. As part of the prayer initiative, the Skyview community has gathered to pray on our property on Saturday mornings at 9am - please join us again this Saturday morning as we come before God on our land.
Property Update
Please join us immediately following service this coming Sunday, December 4th for an update from our Property and Skyview Home Committees regarding our property development. Please hold the Property and Skyview Home Committee before the Lord in prayer as they continue to move us along in this process of building a permanent home for Skyview.
Strengths Finder and Strategy Weekend
Along with so many in our congregation, board members completed the Strengths Finder Assessment. As a board we are strongest in Relationship Building and Strategic Thinking! Having an awareness of the strengths on the board and ministry leadership team is useful as we continue to make decisions and grow together in unity. In addition, the board and ministry leadership team will come together on January 27th and 28th to hear from Joel Thiessen as he speaks to us from his research into flourishing congregations. We will also begin the process of drafting a 3 year strategic plan to guide us as we prepare to move into the Harvest Hills Community.
Respectfully submitted,
Leanne Hooper
Church Board Secretary, 2016-2017
Skyview Reaching Out
Skyview stories will return on January 1st. This is an opportunity for us to share with one another what God is doing in our lives. On the first Sunday of each month there will be space during the service for people to come up and speak of what God has been teaching them, to tell of something they are grateful for, to offer an encouraging word, or to speak of where they have seen God lately. We all have stories to share, and we help to build up the church when we share them! Please consider sharing yours.
For the past few years Skyview Community Church has partnered with the University of Calgary in a program called Home Away From Home. The program seeks to connect international students with a Canadian family so that they can develop meaningful friendships while they are away from their family and friends. It is a wonderful opportunity to practice generous hospitality and introduce them to the traditions that are important to you! In January there will be a need for more families to join the program as new international students come for the new semester. Please consider becoming a host family! Visit http://home-away-from-home.ca/ for more information.
Our thanks to all of you for your participation in the recent Veteran's Food Bank donation and Samaritan's Purse shoeboxes! We delivered a full trunk load of food to the food bank and 20 filled shoeboxes to Samaritan's Purse!
