Put Your Garden on Tour in 2017
The Garden Club is checking out gardens for the 2017 Claremont Eclectic Garden Tour. If you have a beautiful garden and would like to share it with others, please let us know! Any style of garden, from roses and daisies to succulents and sagebrush, can be part of the event!

Garden Notes December 2016
It may be cold outside, but you can enjoy reading Decembers' Garden Notes on a cozy couch, and see beautiful photos from the editor, Sue Schenk.  After reading about pruning natives, and recipes for Napa Cabbage you may even be inspired to put on gloves and trim vines or sow Savoy.  Of course it also includes many more horticultural resources!
Read it HERE!

Volunteer With SC!
Sustainable Claremont loves volunteers, and our volunteers enjoy themselves as well.  Contact us now to help with Earth Day, and spreading the word about sustainability at other fun festivals.  You may also assist in the office, on a limited project or an ongoing basis.  If you would like to be a leader of activities such as sustainable landscaping, or participate in a group working on community composting, please reach out to us today!

Claremont Composting Meeting
A joint effort in support of Claremont’s local use of commercial organic waste is underway as a cooperative effort involving Sustainable Claremont, the Growing Club, the City of Claremont, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, Uncommon Good, the Claremont Colleges, and other organizations and individuals.  The City will be setting up a system to collect commercial organic waste as required by California legislation.  Collaborators are looking for ways to compost Claremont’s green waste locally on urban farms.  SC Board Members, Freeman Allen and Richard Haskell, have been leading our efforts.

Sustainability Dialog: A CARBON FEE AND DIVIDEND PROGRAM To Combat Global Warming
The Claremont City Council is asked to pass a resolution supporting a national carbon fee and dividend (CFAD).  CFAD is a non-partisan, market-based, and revenue-neutral solution to counter global warming.  The fee would be applied to production and imports of coal, oil, and natural gas, with the proceeds returned equally to American families.  This approach can greatly reduce US greenhouse gas emissions by shifting the market away from fossil fuels to renewables and increasing energy efficiencies over the decades while improving our health, creating jobs and protecting family budgets.  CFAD experts John Odell (USC) and Rob Haw (JPL) will discuss the proposal, its implications, and lead a dialogue.  Free and open to all.  Sponsored by Sustainable Claremont, the League of Women Voters, the Interfaith Sustainability Council, and Pomona College.
