Texas Grain Indemnity Fund  Referendum

Grain producers to vote on the establishment of an indemnity fund: December 5th - 9th

Have you been involved in producing wheat, corn, grain sorghum, or soybeans in the last 36 months?  If so, you are eligible to vote in the upcoming referendum being held to potentially establish a state grain indemnity fund program here in Texas.

The referendum is being held by the Texas Department of Agriculture, and polling locations will be at all county Extension offices throughout the state.  You may vote at our office anytime between December 5th, and December 9th, during our normal business hours (8 am - 5 pm).

Eligible producers of covered grains will vote to determine if an indemnity fund should be established.  If passed, producers will be assessed two tenths percent of gross sales price of their grain to be placed in the overall fund. The fund will then be used to mitigate financial losses suffered by producers when a grain buyer experiences financial failure.

If approved, collection of the assessment will begin on February 1, 2017.
