Small Business Saturday this weekend


Brave the cold this weekend and join us on your local high street for Small Business Saturday on 3 December. Small Business Saturday events in Haringey include the Crouch End Christmas Craft Market, live music and pop-up stalls on Wood Green High Road and the Tottenham Winter Festival (Christmas Tree lights switch on at 5pm, market stalls and live music).

Dave Hall runs Hall’s Fruit and Veg Stall on Tottenham High Road. The market stall was passed down to Dave and Andy Hall by their great-grandfather and has been trading for over 100 years. In June Dave was nominated as a Haringey Hero for the brilliant contribution he has made to life in Haringey. Watch Dave talking about his business ahead of Small Business Saturday:

Free parking will be available in council-run town centre car parks and pay-and-display bays on Small Business Saturday.

Black in Haringey documentary online


Last night the official screening of a groundbreaking documentary ‘Black in Haringey’ was held at St Ann’s Library. ‘Black in Haringey’ features interviews with actress Judith Jacobs, David Lammy MP, Clasford Sterling MBE and local businesses including Body Music, Blooming Scent Cafe and Uncle John’s Bakery. Haringey school success


Two schools from Haringey (Fortismere and Alexandra Park) made it into the Sunday Times top 20 schools in the UK.

Heartlands school was awarded a Gold Healthy School award this week. The Mayor of London sponsored awards for schools who can demonstrate promoting health and wellbeing. Six Haringey schools have received a Gold Healthy school award.

Haringey health magazine launched


Young people in Haringey have published a 28 page magazine which looks frankly at issues of physical, mental and sexual health. The magazine was produced by the Muswell Hill based award-winning youth communications team, Exposure.

£3.6million loan fund for businesses


The Opportunity Investment Fund (OIF) is a £3.67million loan fund open to businesses that want to grow and create high quality employment in Tottenham. So far OIF has supported businesses like the Northumberland Park based inSpiral who are the number one producer of kale crisps in Europe. Could you be next?

Awards for Haringey Heroes


Over 300 people were nominated for the brilliant voluntary work they do in the first Haringey Voluntary and Community Expo organised with The Bridge Renewal Trust. Award winners included ‘Young Haringey Hero’ Limudin Ali (ambassador for the Princes Trust who runs acting workshops and helps young people into training and employment) and ‘Haringey Hero of the Year’ Georgina Pierre-Louis, who has supported children, parents and carers since 2004.
