News from the Bragg Creek Community Centre

MONTHLY UPDATE

Hello Bragg Creek Community & Area,

Another busy month has passed, and it's already December! For the now fully re-opened community centre, the past month has been spent hosting programs and events. November included a wedding, the Remembrance Day Ceremony, Women's Group, Movie Night, Church Services, a Bragg Creek Performing Arts Event, and the Artisans Christmas Sale! On top of all that, the centre hosted regular programs such as Rumble & Roar, Acrobatic Studios, Sylvan Learning, Artsy Afternoon, Parkour, Drop-In Badminton, Dog Training, Junior Forest Wardens, Tots Time, Junior Chefs, and Spanish Lessons! Lets not forget that we also ran the Home Alone Safely Course. It sure feels great to have our Community Centre Back!

November Highlights
The 2016 Remembrance Day Ceremony was a beautiful tribute to those that have served. The auditorium was packed with standing room only suggesting there were 350+ people in attendance. Those that brought a food donation contributed to almost 2000 pounds of food for the veterans food bank! Thank-you to everyone who attended!

The Bragg Creek Rink Committee has been flooding the rink steadily this past week! They are working tirelessy in the cold to ensure this community has ice for the winter. If you are interested in helping maintain the rink, please email braggcreekrink@gmail.com. Also like their Facebook Page to receive all updates.
The BCCA needs your help! Our big Casino Fundraiser is on February 6 & 7. If you can help, contact the BCCA staff (403-949-4277) | progcoordinator@braggcreekca.com) ASAP!

Welcome back Bragg Creek Community Church! Pastor Dave and the Church's amazing worship team are back at the Community Centre on Sunday mornings from 10:00-11:30am. For more information, please check out their website!
The Bragg Creek Monthly Women's Group held on November 24th was a success with 10 ladies in attendance. The Women's Group features a different activity each month, and a complimentary glass of wine is always included. This month, Kristen Kennedy from K-Two Katering (587-437-5181) volunteered her time to instruct the ladies through a cooking lesson. Each participant walked away with 4 Holiday Hor D'oeuvres and some fun memories! Stay tuned to the BCCA website for upcoming women's group activities.

Movie Night in the Creek had 79 people in attendance! If you haven't been to one yet, what are you waiting for? The movie is always family friendly, and the concession offers popcorn, pop, candy, and chocolate bars. The November feature was "The Wild Life". The movie is FREE for members, and only $5.00/person for non-members. The next movie is "Norm of the North" on December 16th (Doors open at 6:00pm). Thank-you everyone who came out to enjoy the fun family evening! Also thank-you to the Bragg Creek Junior Forest Wardens for helping with admissions and the concession.

The Artisans Christmas Sale was a flurry of activity, and well-attended once again. This two-day sale takes at least a year to prepare for. The Bragg Creek Artisans work tirelessly to get their creations ready for the sale, and then spend days transforming the Bragg Creek Community Centre into a Christmas wonderland for all shoppers to experience. Thank-you for the opportuinty to purchase unique gifts while featuring the amazing local talent we have in the community.
The Bragg Creek Performing Arts never disappoints in bringing amazing performances to our community. On November 12th, The BCPA featured Tom Allen and Friends. Here’s what some of the audience had to say about November’s show;
“Outstanding entertainment, intimate venue, cash bar & awesome volunteers!”
"Fabulous show Tom Allen & Friends! Incredible storytelling, vocals and Music!”
“We get so many amazing people performing in Bragg Creek”
The BCPA brings a high level of entertainment to our little community! Make sure you check out the BCPA's Spring schedule! Season Package Tickets are already available.

The Home Alone Safely Course offered on November 26-27th had 10 kids in attendance. This course is for kids Ages 10-12 (younger siblings ages 8-10) to help them learn skills to gain confidence for staying home alone. If you wanted your kids to attend, but he/she was too young, please email progcoordinator@braggcreekca.com. If there is enough interest, we will offer this course again in the spring.

The BCCA Board and Staff are excited to have the Bragg Creek Community Centre full of events, programs, and people once again! If you wish to book a wedding, birthday party, meeting or event, please contact Christine at specialevents@braggcreekca.comThe 2017 year is already filling up fast, so don't wait!

MEET TOM!

This beautifully hand-crafted life size bear was donated to the Bragg Creek Community Centre by Brian Widahl. Right now, "Tom the Bear" is hibernating in the Bragg Creek Community Centre foyer, but he will be re-located in the spring to his permanent home at the entrance to the new park! Brian Widahl does chainsaw sculpting and woodwork. Check out more of his beautiful work at Widahl Woodcraft! This piece was dedicated to Tom Dubois (1953-2016). Thank-you for this outstanding donation, Brian.
Another Gift!
Another beautiful addition to the Bragg Creek Community Centre! This masterpiece of the Bragg Creek area was painted by Minnie Barnes and owned by George and Margaret Desson. Their children have donated it to the centre. Thank-you Barb Spaulding, Cathy McCalder, Maureen Weatherly, Carolyn Cookson, Sue McKay, and Mike Desson.
