GROUND'S REPORT

It is very exciting times at TGC with the new pump transfer station and new pump station now in use. The pump station is state of the art with many modern features that makes life so much easier for the grounds staff.

It has 4 variable speed pumps capable of pumping out 70 litters a second (that’s about a bath tub per second).
A new filter system to reduce the course sprinklers blocking up.
An injection system to apply wetting agents directly into the irrigation system to help with dry spots and reduce water usage.
The new irrigation system is working well and I’m sure members can see the difference it has made already especially the difference between the old course and new.

Trees on the 6th hole are being transplanted to the 7th fairway to help shape the fairway and protect the housing. The jungle has also been trimmed to open up the hole. I understand some members had concerns over the trimming back of the jungle but let as assure you it will not take long to recover.

Over December we will be doing a lot of work to get the weeds under control. We just need to wait for the turf to become healthier before we can selectively spray the Crowsfoot out.

From the Course Maintenance Team.

LADIES CAPTAIN'S REPORT

To begin, I wish to offer condolences to our valued member and friend, Kay Donohue, on the recent loss of her partner, Les.  Also to Ian, from the Pro Shop, we were saddened to hear of the passing of your father.

Our Ladies Golfing year is now winding down however we recently had our Captain’s V President’s event, the members being resplendent in either yellow or pink depending on the team they were representing.

Congratulations to President Elaine, whose team was successful for the third year in a row and whose name will once again be engraved on the trophy.  Thanks to my team who all tried their very hardest but were beaten by the better team on the day.

Last Wednesday night, we held our annual Presentation Evening and almost 70 ladies wore their retro gear for the themed event.  The Fairways Room had been delightfully decorated by Ladies Committee, the Trophy Table looked great and delicious food was provided by Essentially Fresh Catering.   We were honoured to have Agnetha from ABBA and Audrey Hepburn join us for the evening.

Many of the awards presented have been mentioned in earlier “Tee Time” articles but some are awarded based on the performance of the Member in a number of events across the year.

These included:
Golfer of the Year:                Debbie Gilbert
Most Consistent:                  Sandy Goldie
8 Best Netts:                        Sandy Goldie
Club Friendship:                   Bev Hooper
Best 4 Ball Partner:              Debbie Gilbert
President’s Trophy:              Val Thompson
Captain’s Trophy:                 Julia Bruniera.

Congratulations to those winners for their good golfing throughout the year, as well as to all others who collected prizes on the night.

As this will be my last report for 2016, I would like to thank the members of this year’s Ladies Match Committee, in particular Vice-Captains Kaye Griffiths and Julie Laslett, for their hard work and support throughout the year.

Bill and I plan to spend much of the next three months overseas but I look forward to the challenges and rewards of being part of the TGC family in 2017.

To all TGC Members and staff, I wish you the joys of a Festive Season spent with loving family and good friends.

Best Wishes to you all.

Janelle Malcolm

CONGRATULATIONS TO TERRY KINGSTON

Golf NQ conducts a yearly Graded Points event for male players participating in Club Opens throughout the year.  The idea is to encourage players of all grades to travel to more Open Championships resulting in greater overall attendance.

Points are accumulated for both attendance and gross placing in the grade.  The points not only determine the trophy winners in each of the 4 grades but are be used to select players to represent North Queensland in some events run by Golf Queensland.

Our own Terry Kingston was successful in winning the A1 Grade with 113 points and travelled south to the Inter-Association event held at Palmer Colonial as part of the NQ Eastern District’s team.

Over two days, he participated in Foursomes, Fourball Stroke and Single Stroke events. 52 players competed in the state-wide tournament which was won by the Sunshine Coast.
