Artist Statement:
The subject matter in my paintings is realism found in the observation of nature and landscape. I want to express what fascinates me when I experience nature, a joy of form, color and the unity of composition on the canvas as it tells a story of place. I’m interested in expressing a sense of space with the unique light and atmosphere seen at different the times of day and in all kinds of weather, found in all four seasons. I usually create a series of paintings with a common theme like “Wetlands”, which I am currently painting. I’m fascinated by the unique reflections of the surrounding landscape and sky found on the surface of water, sometimes obscured by a breeze. Since my paintings are usually large, I often paint them in my studio from photo references.

'Painting the Dynamic Still Life'
Join Eugene artist Sarah Sedgwick for this fun and intense three-day painting workshop! We will focus on the still life as a tool to expand your artistic vision, delving into color, composition, and brushwork, and exploring traditional subjects- and some non-traditional ones. Lots of color mixing and some quick, fun exercises will change your approach to painting- and your ideas of what a still life can be!
Sarah will demonstrate her painting process, and you’ll have plenty of painting time, along with individual instruction and constructive critiques.
Artists of all levels welcome- paint in oils or acrylics. Instruction will be in oils. Three day workshop, 7 hours each day. Maximum of 6 students.

Slava Korolenkov
Plain Air Painters of Lane County is honored to host Slava Korolenkov from Moscow, Russia for a 5 day landscape and still life workshop in the field. As a graduate of the prestigious Moscow Storgaov Academy of Art, Slava is best known for his mastery of color and bold brushwork evolved primarily under the influence of Nikolay Fechin, Konstantin Korovin, Michael Vrubel and the French Impressionists.
His works are exhibited internationally and are well represented in private collections throughout Japan, USA, Germany, France, and elsewhere. He has extensive teaching experience both in Russia and abroad, and we are excited to have him share his techniques with us during his Spring trip to Oregon in 2017!

Brush Tips
To protect your hands while painting with acrylics, oils and mediums, blue nitrile gloves work well, or any non powered, non latex gloves. An alternative, if you don't want to wear gloves, is a barrier cream. Windsor&Newton makes ArtGuard, a very nice barrier cream. A little goes a long way to keep paints and meduims off of your skin.
