Dear <<First Name>>,

Christmas is a time for giving and receiving, and reflecting on Jesus, God's indescribable gift to us. I pray you will have a wonderful season of joy and festivity with family and friends! Thank you for praying and supporting our work over the past year. Please see below for an opportunity to give a gift that will last for ever.

God bless, Barry Funnell

An Eternal Gift

You can give an eternal gift this Christmas to some one in need. In Matthew 24:35 Jesus says, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my Words will never pass away." Giving someone a Bible in their own language is like giving them an eternal gift.

Isaiah 55:11 promises that "... my word that goes out from my mouth...will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire."

You can make a huge and eternal difference in someone's life today by helping them to receive a Bible in their own language for as little as a gift of £5. Please click here to make your donation.

Why not consider joining our team with a regular gift of £5 per month and help us to reach our goal of translating 500 complete Bibles by 2050?

Mpoto discovered

During Barry and Julia Funnell's first few years as missionaries in Malawi in the early 1990's they searched for the Mpoto people. According to the Ethnologue (a language research encyclopedia) the Mpoto lived in north Malawi. Barry and Julia failed to find the Mpoto in Malawi, but a few years ago, they discovered them in Tanzania. There are 83,000 living in the Songea region on the shores of Lake Malawi/Tanganika.

We rejoice with the Mpoto people as God has always know their address (Acts 17.26) and determined where they should live. Now he has spoken to them in their own language through the recent publication of Mark's Gospel. The Gospel of Mark in Mpoto was launched in Nov 2016, and work is continuing on the New Testament.

Myanmar, a first

Our first training in Myanmar took place in October this year. We had 8 students who attended the Diploma in Bible Translation first year course. They represent several Bibleless languages. Research indicates that over 150 languages which have no scripture as yet are spoken in Myanmar.

Please join us in praise for:

  • Three more Bible-less people groups in Ethiopia now have a Bible translation started in their language!  Praise God for the ten new Bible translators of the Basketo (5 translators), Kebena (2) and Meskan (3) tribes.
  • The work in SE Asia is growing rapidly.  TWFTW is currently involved in 58 projects, which means we are over halfway towards the vision of starting 100 projects in SEA by 2020
  • We praise God for the ongoing consultant checking of the Eastern Slovak Romani Bible translation.  TWFTW consultant and Director of Translation, Dr Manie van den Heever, visited in the summer to consultant check some Old Testament books for accuracy and to provide training.
  • Antoinette was in Asia again where she consultant checked Mathew in 8 language communities.

A wait of 90 years

This precious Ndendeule man waited 90 years to hear the life-giving words of Jesus in his mother tongue. George, in charge of our promotions in Tanzania, visited this Mus1im man three years ago when research was being done to start a Ndendeule translation project.

George promised him that one day there would be a Bible in Ndendeule, because God loves them. George promised to return to visit him again. Three years later George met him again, but this time he had a Gospel of Mark in Ndendeule to present to him. He told the man about forgiveness of sins through Christ, and the old man was thrilled to see the book. His eyes had become dim through age, but that day they seemed to open as he enthusiastically read the Gospel of Mark to his wife.

He became convinced of his need and accepted Christ as his personal saviour. A few weeks later he passed away. He had waited far too long to hear the good news of Jesus in his heart language but the power of God's Word did not return void and he received the gift of eternal life!

Please help us (through your prayers and gifts) to reach other language groups with the good news of Jesus, before it is too late for them! How long must they wait?

Still 1,778 languages without a single verse of scripture

Please consider joining our support team to help every language to have a Bible of their own. Regular monthly donations, no matter how small, go a long way to support national Bible translators to be able to work and support their families. Please click here to make your eternal investment in something that will never pass away!

Ngoni and Yao, Tanzania

Barry Funnell recently checked the letters of Romans, Hebrews and Peter in Tanzania with the Ngoni and Yao teams in our new offices in Morogoro. Each group has about half a million speakers, and the Yao are over 90% Is1amic.

Gudrun Rogler, a consultant in training from Germany, joined Barry on this two week trip to gain more practical experience in learning how to check these Bantu languages. Please click here to watch a video on the Yao and Ngoni teams.

Please pray with us for:

  • Several potential Bible translation projects in Ethiopia are expected to begin translation work as soon as funding is available:  Donga (5 translators), Erbore (1), Mareko (2), Nayi (3), Podi (4) and Tembaro (5).
  • TWFTW in SEA has a new Assistant Director for Asia – Manoj M! Please pray for Manoj and his wife, Naomi, as Manoj takes on the responsibilities of helping Kobus oversee the work in TWFTW’s largest area.
  • Distribution of 500 USB cards with the audio New Testament in Romani (made in cooperation with Faith Comes by Hearing in 2014) will begin in December. Please pray for the distribution, and for lives to be changed to God’s glory.
  • Barry is travelling to Zambia from the 3rd to the 18th of December to check the Gospel of Mark, Hebrews and Revelation with the Soli team. Pray for safe travel and good progress of the work.
