Look for our New Website in 2017!

The Library and the Town of Greenfield have partnered together to upgrade the Town website and give the Library its own dynamic, multi-page website.  This is all made possible through a very generous donation to the Library by American Steel & Precast Erectors (ASPE).  ASPE is one of many local business donors who support our library and our town (often without acknowledgement), stepping in to help Greenfield realize its potential while limiting tax impact.  This website will be a gift for all in town who want to be connected with what's going on with our town departments, including the library and throughout Greenfield. This new dynamic resource will be compatible with your smart phones, and unlike the static web page the Library now has, we will be able to upload content regularly ourselves, giving you one place to find out everything that is happening here.  No more bouncing between our catalog page, Facebook and Instagram, or hunting through past newsletters for a date!  Unlike most towns, which separate their library web presence from the rest of the Town, we are working together to bring you everything you need to know about Greenfield in one cohesive location. Thank you again to ASPE and all of our local donors.  And thank you to both the Town Select Board and Library Board of Trustees for this outstanding collaborative effort on behalf of Greenfield.  We are hoping to Go LIVE in January, but I will keep you posted!

Tree Lighting and Santa Storytime this Friday!

We will stay open late this Friday, December 2nd and once again host special guest from the North Pole, Santa himself at 6 pm for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on the library lawn, with old-fashioned caroling.  The Tree Lighting will be followed by a special Storytime with holiday stories read by Santa in the library rotunda, and then the jolly elf will take the time to hear all the children's special wishes.  Free refreshments and children's crafts will also be available.  This free event is sponsored by the Greenfield Independent Volunteers and the Friends of the Stephenson Memorial Library.

This month's Book Club News

Some reminders on Children's Book Clubs:
  • Please remember that our children's book clubs require SIGN-UPS so we plan accordingly and are limited to 10 children.
  • Children coming by bus directly from GES require a LIBRARY permission slip, in addition to the school's requirements.
  • Book Clubs are one area of library programming that we restrict, due to staffing, supplies and age appropriateness of content, so PLEASE do not expect us to add younger siblings to the group's activities.  We offer many other mulit-age programs, and younger siblings have their own storytimes and book clubs.  We really appreciate your cooperation in allowing our groups to meet without repeated interruptions of younger siblings.
Upcoming Meetings:
  • PreK- Grade 1- Friday, December 9 at 3:40 pm  Ira Sleeps Over
  • Grades 2 - 4 -  Friday, December 16 at 3:40 pm Fortunately the Milk
  • Grades 4 - 5 - Wednesday, December 7 at 4:30 pm  The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
  • Grades 5 - 7 - Wednesday, December 14 at 4:45 pm (after late bus arrives) Breadcrumbs
  • Our Adult Book Groups are taking a break until January, but stop by for titles arriving the end of December.

The 3D Printer is here!

Help decorate our Makers Tree!
With so many new STEM activities, we have changed the name of Lego Club to Makers Club!  Makers Club meets every Thursday at 4:30 pm for all ages, and includes Legos, Bionicles, 3Doodler Pens, Snap Circuits...and more!
Our young Makers are all learning about our new 3D printer and exploring TinkerCAD.  Look for formal programming related to 3D printing with Winter Learning in January.  Meanwhile, all of our young creators are challenged to help us decorate the Christmas tree with ornaments they make themselves -- with paper, glitter, or legos or 3D designs...No limit to creativity!
