Register for Part I on methods and approaches, Part II on basic tools, Part III on advanced approaches, or better yet take all three to get the preparation you need to become a competent practitioner.

Data Organization in Stata
Amp up your data organization to make working in Stata easier. By the end of the workshop, participants will have an understanding of the importance of data organization, and have seen examples of potential structures for how to organize data files, do files, and other documentation. Register here!

Introduction to Artificial Neural Networks
This workshop introduces Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), a group of popular machine learning algorithms, and will include a brief history plus step-by-step construction of a basic ANN! Register here.

Creating Maps in R
Need to plot points or add reference data to a map like Google Maps? This workshop will show you how! More info and registration here.

Simple Tips for Cleaning Data in Google Sheets
Get your data clean as a whistle in Google Sheets with this helpful workshop! The instructor will demonstrate how these functions can be used to clean data and create an easily digestible presentation of findings. Register here!

Spatial Analysis in R
This workshop will provide an introduction to spatial data and analysis in R with hands-on examples of how to ask spatial questions of your data. Basic knowledge of R is required to follow along. Register here

Exploring Geospatial Data in Python with GeoPandas
Add more to your geopatial toolkit with this workshop demonstrating the capabilites of the GeoPandas library in python. Register here!

GeoLunch: Methods for Mapping Global Croplands
In the last GeoLunch of the semester at the GIF Prof Russell Congnalton will present his work on innovative methods for mapping global croplands at 30m resolution. Methods to be discussed include multi-temporal analysis, spectral pattern analysis, cloud & super computing techniques and error assessment.
Online Access to OCR Software Now Available
Need to digitize text from images or PDFs? Sign up to be a test user in Research's IT's Analytics Environments on Demand (AEoD) Service and gain access to an OCR (optical character recognition) virtual desktop!  See this blog post to learn more.
Text Analysis for Digital Humanists & Social Scientists
Spring 2017 Course: History 100S
Dr. Laura Nelson will lead this introduction to cutting edge ways of structuring, analyzing, and interpreting digitized text-as-data, and will do so by exploring questions fundamental to the humanities and social sciences. The ultimate goal is to encourage students to think about novel ways they can apply these techniques to their own text and research questions, and to provide the skills necessary to apply the methods in their own research.
Intro to Digital Humanities: From Analog to Digital
Spring 2017 Course: Near Eastern Studies 190
In this introductory course students will learn how to design personalized research projects for data-based analysis and bring your work to the public eye in stunning visual narratives with Dr. Adam Anderson. Over the semester, the class will dig into the available museum and library collections (both locally and online) to design and curate digital data-bases.
