White Oak Basketmaking Demonstration
Sunday, Dec 4th 12-3pm, Mammoth Cave National Park Visitor Center
Photo of Charlene Long by Eleanor Hasken
We are hosting a Basketmaking Demonstration at the Visitor Center at Mammoth Cave this Sunday, December 4th.  We're pleased to have basketmakers Scott Gilbert and Beth Hester, as well as Charles, Charlene, & Brandon Long joining us to talk about their craft.  Scott and Beth learned to harvest and make baskets from white oak through their long standing apprenticeship with Ollie and Lestel Childress of Park City.  Charles and Charlene, along with grandson Brandon, will demonstrate the local tradition of willow and honeysuckle basketmaking.

This is a free event put on by the Kentucky Folklife Program with assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts, and it coincides with the Park's 37th annual Cave Sing.
Kentucky Creative Industry Summit
Hosted by the Kentucky Arts Council
KFP recently presented on The Bosnia Project at the Kentucky Arts Council's Kentucky Creative Industry Summit.  Project members Brent Björkman, Denis Hodzic, and Virginia Siegel discussed the goal of the project:  to encourage the public to experience Bosnian traditional art and to demonstrate the ways traditional art may serve as an expression of faith, heritage, and survival for refugees and immigrant populations.  Thanks to all who came out!
