29 sexworkers were murdered in the last 10 years
29 reports of violence in Leeds of which 1 murder in Leeds
Gemma Scire (CEO Basis) : “ With #17daysofaction, we want to raise awareness of violence against sex workers, street and indoors and seek support for organisations like ourselves working to uphold the rights of sex workers to work and live safely in Leeds. On Dec. 23 2015, Daria Pionko, a sex worker, was murdered in Leeds which makes this year’s event a specifically poignant one for sex workers, our staff and volunteers. This is also why we are advocating for decimalisation of sex work – as this would make sex work safer – as demonstrated so powerfully by the following hard hitting video by Make Mums Safer"
The campaign
We are marking the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers on Dec. 17th 2016, in the form of “#17daysofaction”, running from Dec. 1 – 17!
