Match the Deans on Giving Day 
TOMORROW at the HC!
 
Deans Matsuda and Gilmore will each be donating $250 to the Honors College tomorrow on Giving Day! Come out and donate at least $1 to match your deans and help the Honors College place even higher than last year's impressive fourth place for total number of gifts received in New Brunswick!

Breakfast, Pie in the Face, and Making an HC Legacy
9:00am-12:00pm | HC Fireside Lounge. Join the HC staff for breakfast and contribute to your HC legacy by donating at least $1. Any student who donates will be eligible to win special HC prize packs. Free food, music, and activities, including a chance to pie a fellow student in the face for the cause!

Giving Day Reveal!8:00-9:00pm | HC Druskin Lounge. Stop by the Student Advisory Board's Giving Day reveal to learn which wing had the highest number of participants! Winners will also be announced for the HC prize packs.

If you can't attend the events, you can still participate in the challenge all day long by giving online.

Honors College Forum Tips and Tricks TONIGHT

Want to know how to rock that Forum presentation and take home an A? Join the HC Mentors in Residence along with some of last year's plenary winners to hear what they did to take their presentations to the next level. Time will be given to work on or rehearse your own presentations and get one-on-one advice from our guest sophomores. Dinner provided.

Sophomore Workshop: Optimize Your Strengths for Leadership
Register by Tuesday, November 29
Workshop Friday, December 2, 2:00-3:00pm | HC S120
 
Sophomores have the opportunity to take the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment in advance of this workshop, receiving a detailed report that provides insight about natural talents and areas of strength. During the workshop, students will learn how to use their strengths in personal, academic, and professional situations. Students meet in small groups to develop action plans and understand their talents in relation to fellow group members and leadership opportunities. Register to attend.

Do you have ideas for initiatives within the Honors College? Come out to the Student Advisory Board's Town Hall to speak with board members, find out what’s being planned for next semester, and make suggestions about changes you'd like to see. You can also ask questions live via the Student Advisory Board Facebook page.
 

DRC STEAM Winter Session in NYC
Apply by Thursday, December 1 for January 3-13, 2017, Trip


DRC Members, are you interested in an all-expenses paid 10-day winter session experience in New York City with DRC Innovator in Residence Julia Buntaine? Apply for this immersive experience to meet leaders in the STEAM movement (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics)—visit labs, studios, and co-working spaces; enjoy NYC's many cultural sites; and create your own innovations to be presented at a spring symposium. Overnight accommodations provided. To apply, DRC students must answer the following questions:

  1. Why does studying art, science, and technology together sound interesting to you?
  2. What do you hope to get out of this course?
  3. What is your intended major at Rutgers?

Please limit your answers to 250 words or less for each question and email them to Julia Buntaine for consideration. Space is limited.

End of Semester Celebration!
Friday, December 9, 6:00-8:00pm | HC Fireside Lounge

Join the entire HC community to celebrate the end of the fall semester! There'll be stress busters for everyone, including massages, yoga, crafting, and games. Enjoy a fun photo station, a raffle with prizes, holiday music, and delicious treats to decorate and eat! Event is hosted by the Community Liaisons, SAB, Mentors in Residence, RAs, and the HC RHA.

Coffee with the Deans Featuring Picture Global Change—Thursday, December 1, 10:00-11:00am | HC Fireside Lounge. Join Picture Global Change, a student organization whose goal is to inspire students to get involved with humanitarian organizations at Rutgers and make a difference by teaching creative marketing skills and how to apply them to help raise awareness of humanitarian work at Rutgers. Learn how you can get involved while enjoying coffee, tea, and hot chocolate! Other Rutgers student organizations can host a table at future Coffee with the Deans events by signing up.

First Fridays Service ProjectFriday, December 2, 11:00am | HC Druskin Lounge. Bring a canned or boxed food donation to give back to the Rutgers Student Food Pantry (part of the department of Off-Campus Living and Community Partnerships) and discover how your donations and actions can make positive impacts on the food insecure in our Rutgers and New Brunswick communities. The first five participants who arrive will have the opportunity to stack the shelves at the Food Pantry. All participants will receive one HC Serves hour.

Big Chill 5k Run/Walk—Saturday, December 3, 9:00am | College Ave Gym. Rutgers Recreation is hosting one of the largest annual 5k races in New Jersey, and we've created an Honors College team! Sign up today and list “Honors College” as the team name. Meet before the start for a big group photo! You will also receive HC Serves hours for participating.

The Knights' Table Presents: A Discussion on Gun Control—Monday, December 5, 7:00pm | HC Druskin Lounge. Gun control has long been at the forefront of American politics. How do we have a civil dialog about this polarizing issue while considering and respecting all viewpoints? Join the Knights’ Table and distinguished professors from around the Rutgers community for a critical analysis of gun control in America, followed by a student-driven discussion in breakout sessions with the chance to personally interact with the speakers.

  An Evening with Master Papermaker Anne McKeown—Tuesday, December 6, 7:00pm | HC Druskin Lounge. Come have dinner and learn about papermaking, collaborating with artists, and the realization of art through persistent pursuit. Sign up now.

Exhibition on Paper-Based Electronics and Art—Wednesday, December 7, 5:00pm | HC S120.
Join Faculty Fellow Dr. Mazzeo in viewing projects completed by teams in the Honors College Byrne Seminar on paper-based electronics and art. Students will present their projects and share details about their design and artistic interpretations.

Rutgers at Large

Rutgers Giving Day: Student Volunteers NeededTuesday, November 29. On Rutgers Giving Day, alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends will paint the day scarlet by giving to their favorite Rutgers causes and, in many cases, by inspiring others to join them. Throughout the day, students will also be encouraged to visit on-campus events, where they can leave their mark on a canvas, receive a Rutgers Giving Day box, make a gift, and more. Volunteer here.  Students will receive HC Serves hours for volunteering.

Rutgers Film Screening: Teen Behenein—Wednesday, November 30, 3:30-5:30pm | Voorhees Hall, Room 105. Attend a special screening of Teen Behenein, a film by Kundan Shah. The film "captures that grim day in 1988 when three sisters committed suicide in Kanpur to ease the burden of dowry on their parents..." (Indian Express). It is a "cutting-edge critique of the existing value systems in Indian society that result in the total debasement of women" (The Hindu). There will be Q&A following the screening with Shekhar Hattangadi (Chief Associate Director). This is a presentation of the SAS Signature Course, "Religions Now! 21st Century Controversies," the Department of Religion, and the South Asian Studies Program.

The Science, Art, and Activism of AIDSThursday, December 1, 7:30-10:00pm | Livingston Student Center. Join GAIA in recognizing World AIDS Day with this special event, which includes a presentation by Richard Marlink, M.D., director of the Rutgers Global Health Institute and a screening of Compulsive Practice—an hour-long, curated video program built from clips from the compulsive, daily, habitual video practices of nine artists and activists who live with their cameras and have been deeply impacted by HIV/AIDS.

First-Year Fellowship Leadership Certificate ProgramApply by December 4. The Department of Leadership & Experiential Learning is looking for the spring semester's First-Year Fellowship cohort. Participants will engage in workshops throughout the spring semester to develop leadership skills and broaden their networks. The Fellowship is a great venue to build community, grow as a leader, and earn 1.5 credits. Apply

Resident Assistant Info Sessions. Interested in applying to be an RA? Residence Life is having several information sessions during the month of November so you can learn more about the application process, qualifications, and the job overall. Attendance is mandatory to apply.

DIY Electronic Innovation Challenge. Winners will be invited to attend the world-class Kaust NSF Research Conference on Interactive Electronics January 30–February 1, 2017 where they will explore the Kaust Laboratories and network with top electronics researchers from academia and industry–all by the Red Sea! Information and registration.
