Bali Street Kids Project

Bali is associated with beautiful beaches, sun and relaxing holidays, however life is not as easy for everyone here. There are still a lot of street kids especially in bigger cities like Denpasar, Sanur, etc. In 2007 Ibu Putu Etiartini started a project to help these children to have a better chance in life by giving them the opportunity to learn. She opened a school at the beach, which later was moved to a little shop in Kuta,

during a 2 hour down time of begging they can learn regular school curriculum. Today YKPA additionally runs 2 orphanages, one in Tebanan, which gives a home to the little ones (2-12 years old and one in Kuta for the older ones (12-18 years old). The residents are either street kids, disabled children whose families were not able to provide the requested care or children of young women who got pregnant before marriage. Moreover they offer rooms for pregnant single moms as well as support children who urgently need surgeries but cannot afford them. We have been supporting the orphanage in Kuta and recently dropped off more towels and linen as well as the GIK turtle bags for the little ones. YOU can also help to make a difference in these children’s lives, next time you visit Bali pack some of the below mentioned items and drop these off at the Guest Relation Officers Desk :

Balinese celebrations – Cultural events and their meaning

Tumpek Kandang
Tumpek Kandang is a special day when blessings are addressed for every kind of animals, pets and livestock. Particular attention is given to the Hindu god “Rudra” to ask for successful farming and animal welfare. Hindus aim for a harmony of the environment which contributes to human sustenance and happiness.
|
|
|
|
This day is part of a series which occurs every 210 days. Besides Tumpek Kandang the series includes Tumpek Udung for plants, Tumpek Landep for metal objects and tools, Tumpek Kuningan for ancestral spirits, Tumpek Wayang for wayang shadow puppets and Tumpek Krulut for traditional gamelan music instruments.

Yeni - Front Office Supervisor
This month we would like to introduce you to another familiar face of the Grand Inna Kuta family, our Front Office Manager Ibu Yeni. She joined the GIK team almost 25 years ago and enjoys the great team spirit ant positive atmosphere at work. Yeni loves her job, taking care of the guests and their wellbeing. Besides her job Yeni’s hobbies are cooking, eating and reading.

New Year's Eve in Bali
The year 2016 is coming to a close and Bali is famous as one of the preferred spots to spend New Year’s Eve all over the world, to make sure you are well prepared to welcome 2017 in Bali, we listed 5 helpful tips and infos below:
1. Kuta beach is the prime destination to celebrate NYE in Bali.
2. There will be a carnival parade at Kuta Beach during the afternoon.
3. Many roads will be closed as of 4 PM especially in Kuta, Legian and Seminyak area, which means there will
be no cars, cabs or bikes allowed.
4. It is advisable to arrange transportation in advance as there will be a high demand.
5. There will be fireworks at Kuta Beach starting at midnight continuing the whole night.
