Are you high tech or low tech with regard to monitoring your health? Pedometers, having been around for about 100 years, may have started the gadget trend, but we now have a myriad of devices and fitness apps to check our heart rate, sleep patterns as well as meditation apps. We can even have our DNA analyzed!

Tech health gadgets really took off when the Fitbit arrived in 2007; its wristband screen has workout ideas and heart rate tracking while alerting you to messages. The Reliefband produces soft pulses on the wrist to provide relief for nausea from motion sickness. There’s a water bottle that vibrates to remind you to hydrate and running wear with a tracker in the lining that gives coaching tips.

Low tech or no tech folks can utilize the ancient wisdom of yoga. Meditation’s proven benefits to cognition and stress reduction are no secret. Have you heard of the Sri Yantra? With interlocking triangles representing one’s spiritual journey as a pilgrimage, this mystical diagram represents the union of the masculine and feminine divine.

Meditating on the Sri Yantra while holding an intention in your mind’s eye, and looking at the central dot, or bindu,

will synchronize your left and right brainwaves and bring a sense of calm and peace through electromagnetic interaction. The Mayans, the ancient Egyptians, and even Leonardo Da Vinci used the Sri Yantra! And yes, there’s an app for that.

KFOG Concert for Kids

On Thursday, December 8th, The Masonic in San Francisco will host the 2016 KFOG Concert For Kids! Featuring live music by Band Of Horses, Blind Pilot and The Revivalists. Proceeds from this year’s KFOG Concert For Kids will benefit UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals and the Marines Toys for Tots program. Tickets are available here.
