A NEW WEBSITE!

Dear friends,
I am super excited to present my new portfolio website. I had a lot of fun making it and learnt some things about myself too! But now I have to say I am looking forward to getting back to my other, more pressing creative endeavours!

You may be wondering why I created a new website since my previous one was pretty cool too, and one of the reasons I want to share this with you is that some of you may be wanting to create a website of your own and my experience might enlighten you.

Well, it wasn't an overnight decision that's for sure. I must admit, I had been itching to do things with my original website but was limited by the existing template. Nevertheless I kept putting that monumental task aside as it meant I would need to rebuild it from scratch, something  for which I didn't have much time. Fate, however, decided otherwise as circumstances made it imperative I act quickly.

So, from many years on a self-hosted wordpress site I made the big decision to move to a portfolio website hosted by Adobe. I played around with templates and customising them, seeing what was possible, compared the pros and cons of both and made the leap. The pros, for me personally, far outweighed the cons.

The pros:

  • My portfolio website would be linked and synced to my Behance portfolio, which I already had, so no double updating.
  • For just a little more than the cost of self-hosting my original wordpress site I would ALSO get Photoshop and Lightroom on Creative Cloud.
The cons:
  • The Adobe platform does not provide a blog functionality.
  • Sub-pages are not provided, only top level.
There are other differences of course, but these were the main ones that stood out for me.

So, for the moment at least, I have done away with my blog. I thought about maintaining one off-site (a free wordpress one for example) but to be honest I want to devote my precious time to other creative activities and, for the time being at least, I will rely on newsletter updates instead (which might actually get me writing these more than I have been!)

One thing I will add is that Adobe is geared towards creatives and their platform is geared towards showcasing your creative work and putting it in the spotlight rather than a flashy website with a host of distracting bells and whistles, if you get my drift...

So, that's it in a nutshell folks. I'd love your feedback if you have a moment.

I'll be writing to you about some new artwork I have finished in the next few days.

If you want to create a website and are looking for more information on wordpress and adobe than I have shared here, drop me a line and tell me all about it, I may be able to help you out.
