* I-873 Happy Hour *
Thursday, December 1, 5:30-7:30 pm
Vermillion Cafe/Art Space on Capitol Hill
1508 11th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122
$10 suggested donation, no one will be turned away for lack of funds
The initiative needs 250,000 signatures by December 30. If it gains 250,000 signatures, it goes to the legislature. If the legislature fails to act during this upcoming session, the initiative goes to the 2017 ballot. In addition to the Loren Miller Bar Association, I-873 has been endorsed by: the Seattle Police Department, ACLU Washington, Senators Murray and Cantwell, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, and many, many more.
I-873 is an initiative to the legislature to amend RCW 9A.16.040. According to an Amnesty International report and a special Seattle Times article, Washington has the most egregious deadly use of force law for police officers in the country. This statute makes it virtually impossible to prosecute police officers when they use deadly force (only one police officer has been charged with illegal use of force in the three decades since RCW 9A.16.040 was adopted).
