It is with sadness that I write to ask your prayers for the repose of the soul of my dear friend and brother bishop, The Most Rev. Royal Grote, Jr., the Presiding Bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church. Bishop Grote died peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving Day.
Bishop Grote has been a great friend of mine since 1994, and he has faithfully served the Church and our Province. Archbishop Foley Beach said "We will miss his godly and wise leadership in the College of Bishops, his tremendous witness for Christ, and his warm friendship."
I ask your prayers for the repose of his soul, and for comfort and peace for his wife, Ellen, and for all of the Grote family. It would be wholly appropriate and dearly appreciated for priests of the Diocese to offer one of this weekend’s masses for his repose.
I thank you for your prayers and your faithfulness, and I join you in beseeching God’s mercy on the faithful departed. Ever holding you in my love, I am.
