PNC to Present Nominee

The Pastor Nominating Committee is pleased to announce that they have offered a call to Pastor Wendy Downing. Pastor Wendy will bring the message during worship on Sunday, December 18th, and the congregation will vote on her terms of call at the congregational meeting that follows this worship service. If the terms of call are accepted by the congregation, Pastor Wendy Downing's starting date with Steelville Presbyterian Church will be January 9, 2017.

Pastor Wendy comes from a background of chaplain ministry as well as twenty years as a solo pastor at Fisk Presbyterian Church near Sikeston, MO. Wendy and her husband plan to move to the area and eventually retire here. Copies of Pastor Wendy's pastor information form (PIF), terms of call, and other documents will be available on the table in the church library. Please feel free to pick up a copy of these documents and come prepared with any questions you may have on December 18th.

Our PNC was formed on January 24, 2016 and has spent 10 months praying together, sharing perceptions and insights, listening to one another, and they feel strongly that God has called Wendy Downing to be our next pastor. As the PNC is nearing the completion of their work, let us celebrate and give thanks to God for everyone who has played a part in the process that has brought a new pastor to our congregation. Their good work will greatly impact the future of our congregation as we continue to fulfill God's call for our mission and ministry.

Congregational Meeting

As previously announced, there will be a congregational meeting immediately following worship service on Sunday, December 18, 2016 to elect elders and to approve the terms of call for the pastoral candidate presented by the pastor nominating committee.

Christmas Eve Service

Everyone is invited to our traditional Christmas Eve Service on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at 7 p.m. Evan Bell will bring the message and we will celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper and sing Silent Night to the light of candles at the conclusion.

There will be no worship service at Steelville Presbyterian Church on Christmas Day!

Christmas Breakfast and Christmas Caroling

On Sunday, December 11th, we will serve Christmas breakfast in Roper Hall at 9:30 a.m. Breakfast will be prepared and served by the Fellowship committee (it is not a pot-luck meal). Immediately following the worship service on that same day, we will go Christmas Caroling. Karin West will accompany us on her accordion as we sing for our friends at Gibbs Care Center and a few other church members confined to their homes. Please plan to join us for this annual tradition which is so appreciated by our older members.

Presbyterian Women

The Steelville Presbyterian Women will meet on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 2 p.m. for our Advent program and cookie party. All women of the church are invited to bring two-dozen of your favorite cookies and help us assemble and distribute them to our local first responders after the meeting. Please contact Shirley Stulce or Lisa DuLany with any questions.

Welcome Eleanor Grace

Please join us for worship on Sunday, December 11, 2016, when Eric and Lindsie Schmidt will present their daughter, Eleanor Grace Schmidt, for baptism. As a congregation, we will profess our faith, voice our support, and express our willingness to take responsibility for the nurture of Eleanor.

We will continue to accept donations for our new bell tower through the end of the year. As previously announced, a new tower is being constructed to house the bell that previously hung in our church. The tower will be located on the front lawn at the approximate location where the tree once stood. If you would like to contribute to this project, please mark your check "bell tower" and place in the offering plate or give to Jean Thomasma.

Follow Christ's Lead This Advent Season

With Christ at the center this holiday season, we can follow in his example of servant leadership by serving our brothers and sisters in faith. Through the Christmas Joy Offering, we are able to support those in our community and give them the gift of hope.

Funds from the Christmas Joy Offering help the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions provide critical financial assistance to eligible workers in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and their families, and to qualifying retired church workers and their families. The Christmas Joy Offering also supports the education and development of our future leaders at Presbyterian-related racial ethnic schools and colleges.

Please use the special envelopes that have been placed in the pews to contribute to this special offering throughout Advent. By giving to the Christmas Joy Offering, we can share in the hope of Christ and celebrate his leadership.
