Awake, awake, fling off the night!

Tomorrow is Advent Sunday and we enter a new Church year as the holy season of Advent begins.  We recall that Christ came at Bethlehem in weakness: our Saviour.  We give thanks that Christ comes in the Blessed Sacrament: our Food.  And we look ahead to that day when Christ will come in glory: our Judge.  Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Make a good start by joining us for worship tomorrow.  At the 10am Parish Eucharist we'll light the first candle on our Advent wreath, there's Sunday Club Plus for the children and the choir will be singing Byrd's Mass for Four Voices and Praetorius's Come thou Redeemer of the earth.
The Advent Procession takes place next Sunday (4 December) at 6.30pm in St Mary's.  This is a lovely service, slightly revised this year.  Join us for beautiful Advent music from the choir, well-loved Advent hymns and readings as we look for the coming of the Lord.  This will be a great service to bring a friend to.

Bazaar a triumph!

Many thanks to all who worked hard last Saturday for St Mary's Winter Bazaar.  We raised a splendid £1560.38 for Church funds.  Thanks too to all who supported us with their presence on the day.  Click here for more photos.
Sunday Club will be producing another Nativity Play this year: it'll be performed on Sunday 18 December (the Fourth Sunday of Advent) during the 10am Parish Eucharist.  We'd love to have as many children involved as possible: there's a rehearsal during the 10am service next Sunday (4 December), so be sure to come along then if you can!
Go into all the world

There will be a Flower Festival in St Mary’s next May!  The theme is Go into all the world, inspired by the Risen Lord’s command to His disciples: ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation’ (St Mark 16.15).

The Festival will open on Ascension Day, Thursday 25 May, and run over the Bank Holiday weekend: Friday 26 May to Monday 29 May.  Put the dates in your diary now!

We'll need help from the whole Church Family to make this a beautiful and spectacular weekend.  If you’re interested in helping in any way or would just like to know more, whether you (think you) know anything about flowers or not, come to the initial meeting over a drink in the Upper Room this Thursday (1 December) at 7.30pm.  There will be a job for everyone!
A prayer for Advent

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility; that on the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.
Carol-oke tomorrow, 4.30pm

Tomorrow afternoon is Christmas Carnival time in Attleborough!  At 4pm the Rector will bless the Christmas tree in Queen's Square, then the town's lights display will be switched on.  At 4.30pm we have Carol-oke in St Mary's - an early chance to sing some of your favourite carols!  We'll be joined by the Livewire Opera Company.
