Happy Holidays

I hope you are enjoying the winter break and finding time for family. I wish you and yours Peace and Joy, and look forward to reconnecting with everyone in 2017.

Our celebration in song last Friday follows the same path. After last years "Radio Days" this year we turned to Hollywood and the movies. This musical gift to you from all our students, from our youngest through to grade five, is a wonderful way to enjoy the spirit of this holiday season.

This time of year is especially relevant to our Christian and Jewish friends and we enjoy sharing in their celebrations.

As a secular school McDowell takes a neutral stance with regard to religion, but fully embraces the cultures and traditions of our diverse family.

Radio Silence?

If you were wondering why there has been limited communication from me over the past few weeks, sadly, I was without my computer. I am rebuilding my contacts etc and should be fully operational as we start the New Year.

Accelerated Reader

First grader Siena drew the lucky ticket out of the 56 100% AR Test entries for the week ending December 2nd.

She chose the  book - "Jade the Disco Fairy"  by Daisy Meadows.
Accelerated Reader

The drawing for the week ending December 9th  drew Shayan from second grade out of the Jar. There were 44 entries that week taking our total this year to 534 so far...

He chose the Magic Tree House  book - "Tigers at Twilight" by Mary Pope Osborne.
Discovery Cube

On December the 5th our PreK and Kinder classes had a joint field study to the Discovery Cube in Santa Ana. A great way to combine science and fun.

Laguna Niguel Holiday Parade

On December the 9th over 75 parents, teachers and students and alumni took part in the annual holiday parade. A gray day lit up by smiles (and fueled by donuts and hot chocolate!)
The competition for best decorated bike or scooter was won by Roham (Gr 1) and Carley (Gr 4), pictured below with their choice of book prizes.
Preschool Grinch Day

Our younger students enjoyed a day of winter activities culminatign in a showing of the original Grinch movie...
