Dear <<First Name>>,
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Snow is finally on the ground. Christmas trees and other decorations are appearing. Carols are being played. We pray that you will be blessed as you go about your preparations for the season.

As you think about gift giving this year, please consider a donation to CESLM. We are facing several challenges in the upcoming year and funds are needed. We appreciate your consideration!

A Fond Farewell to Bev Chambers

We were all sad to hear last spring that Bev Chamber’s husband, Norm, had suffered a stroke, and that Bev had to resign from her position of Administrative Coordinator to care for him.

How do we say thank you to Bev Chambers for all she has contributed to CESLM? I don’t think we can capture all she has done and been for CESLM.

Bev met Madeline Johnson in 2006, shortly after she had retired from her years as the Director of the YWCA ESL program. Bev first became involved by writing a proposal for what became the Intercultural Communication Training Workshop. The proposal was accepted, and Bev was hired as a part time paid contractor to design the training and set up the project. This involved program design, curriculum development, materials preparation, facilitation and administration.  Doing those workshops was Bev’s first love.

As time went on, it became more volunteer work, and less paid time, but Bev was still considered to be part time staff. Bev thought that CESLM was the right fit for her professional skills and spiritual beliefs.

Dialogue Journals

By Dr. Roswita Dressler

While many of our students care about writing correctly, it can sometimes become such a worry that they can barely write a few words before stopping to look up the spelling or check the grammar. You may decide as a teacher that there are times when that is important and other times when you would like to encourage your students to write as much as they want or can without worrying about grammar.

One way to work on writing fluency is to start a dialogue journal.

CESLM Needs Your Support

Why should you give to Cooperative ESL Ministries?

So you can participate in what God is doing in Calgary through Cooperative ESL Ministries.

We are motivated by our mission to empower churches to reach out in love to the immigrants and internationals in our community.

We envision a future where churches are key leaders in welcoming and integrating newcomers to Canada.

Asking for money is our way of inviting you to put your hard-earned resources at the disposal of the kingdom. We want to give you the opportunity to invest what you have in the work of God.

You can join us in our passion to welcome newcomers by providing friendship and practical skills that help them adapt to a new life in Canada.

This passion is shared by all of our committed volunteers.

Did you know that we operate on only 15 paid hours per week? This goes toward planning and setting up our training programs, designing and producing our promotional matter and keeping our network alive via our website and electronic newsletter. All administrative and operational work is done by volunteers, and all our Board Members are volunteers.

This means that the donations you make go directly towards our working in providing information and training for the volunteers who work in church and community programs directly impacting the lives of newcomers!

Because ministry costs money and if we don’t ask, we don’t receive.

Making our friends and supporters aware of our financial needs is necessary in order to continue the work of Cooperative ESL Ministries. We know God works through His people to provide the resources necessary to continue the important work of reaching our to newcomers through our training programs. We want to be clear that we don’t want you to feel pressured to give. Biblical giving should be done with a grateful and joyful hear, not under compulsion.

Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:6-7 NIV)

When you give to Cooperative ESL Ministries, you are helping to continue the work of reaching out to newcomers in Calgary. As a result, volunteers are being trained and equipped with tools to reach out to newcomers through English Language Learning, building friendships and opening doors to share the Good News, which ultimately leads to changed lives.

Your one-time or monthly donations are greatly appreciated.
