PATAcademy-HCD: The Art of Storytelling 


Our final PATAcademy-HCD for 2016 is now taking place in Bangkok. Participants are learning how to create inspiring stories that touch the hearts and minds of their audiences. The three-day programme has attracted representatives from Bangladesh, Guam, Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Palau, South Africa and Thailand.

Seychelles commits to joining PATA

 

PATA UPDATES
PATA CEO Dr. Mario Hardy visited the Seychelles as guest of honour for the island's first edition of its Ocean Festival. During a meeting with Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, a number of points were discussed including the invitation for Seychelles to become a member of PATA. The Seychelles Minister also tabled the point that, through PATA, Seychelles could be positioned as the bridge between Africa and Asia.

Sunny days in Panzhihua

 

PATA Chief of Staff Dale Lawrence was guest of honour at the Sichuan Rural Culture Tourism Festival in Panzhihua city. The event was combined with the city’s annual Happy Sunshine Festival. After making his keynote address, Dale Lawrence presented a PATA membership certificate to Panzhihua Vice Mayor Mr Wenfei Li. PATA has been invited to work with city and provincial officials and wellness experts at Panzhihua University on a range of tourism initiatives designed to attract more international visitors to this fascinating part of southern Sichuan.

Dalian tourism chief visits PATA HQ

 

PATA and the Dalian Travel & Tourism Bureau are exploring opportunities to raise international awareness of tourist destinations in the city. Dalian is a popular destination for visitors from Japan, Russia and Korea but the city’s tourism chiefs are keen to attract international visitors from other source markets. Mr. Wang Shuyan, Deputy Director General of the Dalian Travel & Tourism Bureau, was welcomed to the Association’s Bangkok HQ by PATA Chief of Staff Dale Lawrence.

Guam's visitor numbers boosted by Japanese and Korean tourists
 
Guam reports a solid year-on-year visitor arrivals growth of 10.36 percent in October 2016, driven mainly by visitors from Japan and Korea (ROK). Fiji continues to witness steady visitor arrivals, with 6.47 percent growth in the same period. Meanwhile, the pace slackened for Hawaii with a more modest year-on-year growth of 3.28 percent for October.

A new book by ex-PATA chief

Former PATA CEO Lakshman Ratnapala has published his second book this year titled 'Soaring Spirits and Shooting Star', paying tribute to 14 people who have inspired him through his lifetime. Born in Sri Lanka and educated at S. Thomas’, Mt. Lavinia, he began his working life as a journalist and government press officer, was appointed as the Ceylon Tourist Board representative in New York. He later joined the Pacific Area Travel Association and rose to be its CEO, becoming a global corporate executive on travel and tourism. Read More.

MGTO: "Macao Light Festival 2016 – Treasure of Light" commences

Organised by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) in conjunction with the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau and Sports Bureau, the Macao Light Festival 2016 – Treasure of Light was inaugurated at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre on December 4. The Festival presents video mapping projections, light installations, interactive games and a music and light show at eight scenic spots in Macao.
