apply for ERIGrid Transnational Access

Engineers from research, academia and industry only have a couple of days left to apply for free access to Europe's top smart grids research laboratories.

The ERIGrid project provides validation, testing and simulation facilities free of charge for your experimental research, backed by concentrated know-how and best practices in the field of smart grid systems and distributed energy resources.

The expenses, including travel and accommodation, will be reimbursed, subject to ERIGrid rules and regulations.

For all details please visit the ERIGrid Transnational Access section.

Submissions close on 15 December, 2016.

One of ERIGrid’s goals is to develop a holistic and integrated approach for analysing and evaluating the complex system of the smart grid. In order to address the gaps in smart grid testing and evaluation approaches, ERIGrid is first identifying and analysing approaches already developed and applied in current smart grids research projects.
These research projects and initiatives will also be involved in validating ERIGrid’s holistic approach in their various applications. Thus ERIGrid set a goal to create synergies with existing R&D activities and established partnerships on both national and international level.

You can find detailed information on ERIGrid cooperation with smart grid projects and initiatives in this report.

Among ERIGrid partnerships are:

ERIGrid has recently released several reports consolidating the project’s latest effort. The documents are available for you in Resources along with other ERIGrid publications and slides.

One of the reports – “Progress report on the cooperation with international and national projects and initiatives within the scope of ERIGrid” – provides an overview of ERIGrid collaborative activities during the first year of the project. These include the information exchange on smart grid scenarios, use cases, research infrastructures requirements and needs, and testing and evaluation methodologies.

The report “ERIGrid scenario descriptions” summarises the overall workflow in the project and methodological viewpoints. As a conclusion, the document presents three smart grid system configurations which will serve as a basis for further developments in the project.

At the 7th International Conference on Integration of Renewable and Distributed Energy Resources (IRED) in Niagara Falls (CA) on 24-28 October, 2016, Ron Brandl of Fraunhofer IWES won the best poster award for the poster “Power Hardware-in-the-Loop Studies for Transmission Network Stability Behaviors”.
The poster presents the prospects of Power-Hardware-in-the Loop (PHIL) systems and, in particular, two possibilities in testing and studying network stability behaviours:
  • Global network stability studies including Hardware-under-Test (HUT)
  • HUT testing for more realistic network events
This work is supported by the ERIGrid project and the DEA-Stabil project.
You can find detailed information in the poster and in the corresponding manuscript in ERIGrid Resources.

At the IEEE International Forum Smart Grids for Smart Cities on 17 October, 2016, in Paris (FR), Thomas Strasser of AIT, Coordinator of ERIGrid, presented the ERIGrid smart grids validation approach in integrated energy systems.

The presentation “Is there a need for formalized design & validation methods in integrated energy systems?” covered the current situation, future needs for analysing and validating smart grids, and other aspects of system validation in smart grids.

The slides from the presentation are available in ERIGrid Resources, along with other materials.
