Whitley Residents Meeting Wednesday 14th December at 7pm
At Whitley Community Centre, 15 The Avenue, Whitley.
From Lindsey Bailey, Chairman of Whitley Residents & Neighbourhood Watch Association
Amongst the topics for discussion will be:-
  1. The Tiverton School Development latest,
  2. Whitley South Development - Is the left turn on the Jag slip road bad for Whitley or good for Cheylesmore. Why can`t we turn right from the Daventry Road onto the London Road - Comments please
  3. The Severn Trent site development - did you know a private developer (not the Wasp`s as we were told) are planning to put 240 houses on this site, and more if the City Council assigns the sections of green belt it still owns.
  4. National Grid - Replacement of old steel gas pipes with new MDPE (yellow plastic) pipelines - where, when and for how long ?.
  5. AOB - Residents issues from the floor,
  6.  ABBEY ROAD RESIDENTS PLEASE NOTE - REAR JETTY PROBLEM - At the end of the evening I intend having a one item discussion for those residents that both access the jetty and put there bins out along it as the Council have again threatened to stop the weekly bin lorry collection due to Health and Safety risks - We need to revisit the previous proposals and explore our options with Cllr Roger Bailey (no relation) and his fellow councillor who have kindly agreed to assist.
Please do your best to attend as, to put it simply, the greater the numbers the more chance we have of our issues being taken as seriously as those that effect the residents of Cheylesmore.

“Whitley Matters”
From Lindsey Bailey, Chairman of Whitley Residents & Neighbourhood Watch Association
Dear Residents:

Please note the above time, date and location of the next Residents meeting.

I am sending this e-mail in the form of an appeal to you as residents asking for continuing and where you feel relevant increased support in the Committee`s sterling efforts to have our collective "Whitley Matters" voice heard and understood by those individuals in positions of responsibility and / or authority, relating to all matters which effect our Community both now and in the future. To give us a realistic chance and to make our efforts on your behalf a worthwhile success I am asking for a pro-active, united stance across the whole of Whitley.  Read more

John Grace Street Parking Petition
Roger has submitted a petition from the residents of John Grace Street, asking for Coventry City Council to consider adding their street to the Cheylesmore Residents Parking Scheme  - East section.  All those approached by a local resident, were willingly to put their name to the petition. This will be processed via Coventry City Council in due course.

In the meantime, Roger will be meeting residents from the street who have questions  in regards to the scheme.

Porlock Close Footpath Resurfaced
Roger received this from Hazel Hill, neighbourhood watch coordinator:
Just to let you know that the footpath resurfacing has been completed today. Must say what a magnificent job the crew have done with the least amount of inconvenience to residents. They have even swept the road and gutters so have not left any mess behind. They are to be congratulated.
Thanks to both of you ( and Hazel Noonan) for all your help

New Tiverton School Update
From the "New Tiverton Delivery Team" for Coventry City Council which consists of Council Officers, the designers and also the builders:
Weekly update: Friday 2nd December 2016
The main contractor Farrans have taken occupation of the old Alice Steven’s site.  The former caretaker’s house is functioning as the site office.  Next year, when the main construction phase is underway, further site cabins will be installed to provide additional welfare facilities and a meeting room.

On site the main plant machinery at the moment is involved with the soft strip of the old building.  Wherever possible elements removed from the building will be sold or recycled. The full demolition of the main building will take place in January 2017.

The former Alice Steven’s car park and turning circle is now part of the demolition site. Some temporary fencing has been installed.  Whitley Abbey staff are now all parking on the Whitley Abbey side of the drive.

This week a joint liaison meeting between the new school delivery team and Whitley Abbey Primary School took place, so that staff understand on site procedures and responsibilities.  These will be regular meetings to safely manage day to day arrangements and more unusual requests. In this meeting awareness was raised about an increased number of visitors to the site for the school’s Christmas performances.

Cheylesmore Library Volunteers
We’ve now had 24 people express an interest in volunteering to enable the library to be kept open. The next volunteers meeting is on Monday 5th December at 3pm

If you are interested in volunteering to help keep the library open then please email: cheylesmore.ward@gmail.com.
The more volunteers that we have then the longer the opening hours can be.

Flytipping Leaf Lane - Cleared
In last week’s update, Hazel, a local neighbourhood watch coordinator, informed us that there had been a lot of Flytipping on Leaf Lane. Thankfully this week she informed us that the mess has now been cleared up.

Cheylesmore Parking Scheme Review?
Roger has been contacted on a regular basis in regards to the review of the scheme. There has been slow progress due to a number of factors, but we have continued to keep residents informed with our weekly update as and when we receive information ourselves.

The following is a response to an email sent by a local resident who was keen on receiving further information. From Paul Bowman, Team Manager (Parking Services):
As you suggest the review of the Cheylesmore (West) and Cheylesmore (East) parking schemes together with the Earlsdon scheme was conducted earlier in the year. Subsequently, the results and feedback from the surveys were assimilated into a draft report. The initial draft was considered by Ward Councillors and resident neighbourhood groups alike and their comments have been incorporated into a further iteration. Ultimately, the report was only finalised very recently. Please accept our apologies for the delay in this respect. A copy of the final report will be made available to residents in the near future.

Some of the key findings that are captured in the report are as follows:
  • The overall feedback from the majority of respondents was that the schemes have had a positive impact on the parking situation
  • Some streets on the periphery of the schemes had been detrimentally impacted as a result of the introduction of the schemes and the displacement of vehicles
  • Some residents want the schemes extending to mitigate the impacts on peripheral streets
  • Some improvements to the existing schemes, including a review of the signage and the times of operation are required
  • Some respondents expressed concerns in regard to the misuse of permits
In terms of a way forward, an Action Plan has been included in the final version of the report. The Action Plan sets out the Council’s commitment to tackling the key issues that were identified by the review.

One of the top priorities is to engage the various petitioners – we have received 5 petitions in total - to discuss and agree the changes that are required. The timescale for this action is January to March 2017.

Steal Me
Every winter, cars are stolen from driveways across the West Midlands because owners leave them unattended, keys in the ignition, while they warm up and the windscreens defrost.

Insurance companies may not pay out for cars stolen in this way - and if your house keys are taken as well, you're making your home vulnerable.   Read more
