 â€˜In Memoriam - Curtis ‘Chippy’ Payne 18/06/93-14/11/16

Curtis ‘Chippy’ Payne, a popular ex-West Hatch student and the son of Tina Cork, part of the WHHS Catering Team (Assistant Cook), was tragically killed in a road accident on Monday, November 14, 2016.

The funeral for Curtis was held at 4.30pm on Thursday, December 1, and was attended by over 800 people.

Close family, friends, colleagues, past team mates and teachers all wanted to join together to demonstrate their love for Curtis and their appreciation of the positive and cheerful way in which he had lived his two decades amongst them.

Hainault Crematorium was a sea of red and white, a tribute to his beloved Arsenal FC. Following the service, both banqueting halls at Woolston Manor were full to overflowing as mourners raised a glass to ‘Chippy’.

At West Hatch from 2009 to 2011, Curtis was a highly skilled footballer and latterly Captain of Old Bealonians in Redbridge. He, along with his father, John, was a passionate supporter of Arsenal FC.

In 2009 he was awarded the West Hatch High School Player of the Year trophy for his contribution to the Year 11 football team and in his final year at the school he captained the First XI.

Mrs Coralie Reid, Head of PE, knew Curtis well. She said: "Curtis was a true gentleman. Our thoughts go out to Tina and the whole family along with his friends - all of whom are still trying to come to terms with this terrible tragedy.”

Curtis filled everyone’s lives with laughter, smiles and fun times. In return he was adored by all his family and friends.

Jack Saunders, Curtis best friend, has set up a
Crowdfunding Page in his memory to help Tina, John and sister Cara at this devastating time. As of December 14 this has raised an amazing £16,161.

The family would like to thank all those who have donated and sent messages of sympathy and support.

Can you help Jack Saunders raise Â£20,000 to the memory of the beloved Curtis 'Chippy' Payne taken from so many people too soon and fondly remembered by many at West Hatch?
