Painting More with Less
Circa Late 80sPeter G. Buchan's new body of work focuses on simple lines, as he explained. "My childhood friend sent a photo of a pen and ink drawing I did for him back in the late seventies or early eighties. At that time, my favorite artists were illustrators such as Arthur Rackham, Howard Pyle, NC Wyeth. It's a long list, to name a few."

Contemporary WorkAccording to Buchan, the new deer silhouettes were inspired by his early attempts to copy the masters of illustration. These illustrators, Buchan explained, worked hard to feed their families and were panned by the "art society" for being too sentimental and figurative. The were called "story tellers" and dismissed out right for not providing intellectual and philosophical underpinnings.

Perhaps this misunderstanding still exists today by art critics who get confused as to how to categorize Pete's work, since they have not seen this type of drip painting that pushes the genre beyond its confines of abstract expressionism. The synergy of paint & gravity has allowed Buchan to create a hybrid art form that coalesces the seemingly contradictory worlds of Jackson Pollock and Bob Ross.

To Mass Produce or Not: That's the Question
Consumer demand for Original Dripscapes have continued to increase, so Pete is now considering the possibility of manufacturing prints to mass produce his creations.
Our growth needs to be sustainable, yet this can be challenging when there is only one man, one method and one process. We would love to get your input on this idea, so email us or Facebook us to weigh in on this decision.
