LAST MEETING

ACCLA's November meeting marked the Club's Golden Anniversary, it being 50 years since the first meeting was held in November 1966. President Ken Friedman opened the meeting with a brief business session with reports from Treasurer Barry Rightman, Secretary Michael Connor, and Vice-President Roger Burry. Ken opened nominations for the 2017 Officer and Board positions. Nominations will stay open until the elections are held in December. Merrill Gibson is ordering a Club table at the February Long Beach Show that Roy Iwata volunteered to staff. This was followed by a round robin at which attendees told when they joined ACCLA.

The meeting then turned to more formal celebratory activities.

Michael Connor kicked off with a 15 minute, illustrated presentation on the History of the Ancient Club of Los Angeles, covering major Club activities since it's founding in 1966. This was followed by a brief call-in by long-time member Richard Baker who now lives in Lakewood, Washington.

The meeting then broke for a catered lunch (P.F. Chang) that was nicely orchestrated by Roger Burry.

After lunch we were treated to a fascinating presentation by Randy Butler titled Klickin' on Kilikia - Sites, Coins, and History. Randy combined his pictures of that area of Turkey with an historical narrative that was illustrated with beautiful coins from the historic sites he visited.

The presentation was followed by 50th Anniversary cake (thank you Roger!) and non-alcoholic champagne (thank you Dean!). President Ken Friedman then gave a Tribute to ACCLA. The meeting finished up with the President distributing the newly minted ACCLA T-shirts (as illustrated in the November Meeting Notice). The shirts were designed by Barbara Trejo (thank you Barbara!) who lives in Mexico City making our 50th Anniversary activities something of an international operation.
